Thanks to Red_Cat and our runs this week at the ECTA 1 mile race in Arkansas, I am now regretting my 3.09 gears. He is running a stock 17’ Hellcat with driver seat and a few other items removed for weight. I am running a stock 19 redeye at full weight. He beat me and my son at the full mile by about 2 mph every run. We had better 1/2 mile speeds. We shift into 7th fear at about 160 and slow down. He carries thru in 6th. I think I will change to 2.62 and see if that helps. Either way it was a great weekend of racing with great people. My personal best was 181.45. I would suggest anyone who wants to run the mile go to ECTA. Got as many runs as we wanted. It’s painfull to say we were slower but we were.

Hi Paul

This article has a good explanation of the differences we saw last year in aerodynamiocs and gearing - the widebody Hellcat has 16% more drag than a standard body, which offsets all the extra Redeye power at top speed - then it's down to gearing.

Did you change to a 2.62 gear or are you keeping the 3.09?
16% more drag for Widebody? No way!

The numbers posted in that article do not jive with what FCA has posted.

2020 FCA numbers, Hellcat CD is .384 and the Widebody is .398 so closer to 4%.

Frontal area is 26 sq ft for Hellcat and 26.8 sq ft for Widebody.

You are going to do well. I am sure you saw the post a week or two ago that said sixth gear held into the low 190's? What is your goal and guess?

I hve owned and driven both the 2:62 and the 3:09--and there's NO WAY the 2:62 is a faster car on low or big end racing.. The car actually needs the 3:09 to pull through the torque curve. The upper end pull with the 3:09 is so much stronger..
So--DOdge would make an option for their product that would make it slower?? HAHAHA... no way..
Get the 3:09--you won't regret it! and if you have a HellCat with an M6, get the 3:90 diff--BIG improvement!

It is a matter of gearing. With the 3.09 you hit seventh gear which has way less power than the 2.62 in 6th gear at the mile. I would agree with you otherwise but we proved it out and I was the slower one with the 3.09. Granted I was widebody(more drag) he was a hellcat(less horsepower).

Interesting. I have only managed a best of 153.4 in the 1/2 mile. Stock 2.62 geared lowly 707hp Hellcat at full weight.
I do run at a track known to be an incline mind you. That may make up some of the difference along with weight reduction that southernminncat had.

The event in Maine is only about 8-9 hrs away from me. I keep saying I should check it out.
Hopefully the borders open up and I can make it next year.
