I am new to the forum as i just got a 2016 HC. The guy before me left everything stock and in regards to the exhaust, the only thing he did was replace the mid mufflers w 1794s. I like the sound BUT would like Louder (nothing crazy). Should i remove the 1794s and go straight pipe OR put on 2 more 1794s at the back????? Sorry, i am not a mechanic, nor am i very knowledgeable - just trying to figure out how to make what i have now louder wo drone…
Louder without drone... That costs money.
If you do a mid delete and straight pipe it, regardless what people here might say in disagreement, the drone is real. To get louder than 1794s with no drone, you'd need a part matched catback exhaust kit from Borla (ATAK mufflers) or something similar in an off-road certified exhaust. Gibson, AWE, and Stainless works are a few I've dealt with and they all offer off-road track certified mufflers with no drone. Mismatching midpipe mufflers and rear resonators generally causes drone. The Vibrants do not, but if you cut those resonators, there's a strong chance that you'll end up with drone. To be sure to eliminate it, you should find a part matched catback kit that comes with a no drone guarantee.
One of my previous cars had a badass sounding exhast. It got tons of compliments. Heartthrob midpipe resonator coupled with Magnaflow mufflers on a custom built 3" stainless exhaust. What they couldn't hear though, was the tooth rattling drone that started at 2,200rpm or so and persisted through to 3,100rpm. This was lovely because in 6th gear cruising on the interstate, the car ran around 2,400 RPM at 75mph. There was no "legal" speed I could do on the interstate under 90mph where I wasn't in drone. It was miserable and I cut those off after about 2 months. Flushed $1,400 down the toilet and paid another $2,500 for a StainlessWorks catback system. No more drone, sounded great. Lesson learned.
Also, to keep it loud, you'll have to modify the exhaust valves to stay open all the time. Right now, they're set to open under heavy throttle, which increases the sound, but they close to make the car quieter during normal driving. I personally wouldn't mess with it, but many people do. You can search Google or these forums for how to disable the exhaust valves without getting a CEL.
It's your car, do whatever you want. I just would like to remind you that this is a Hellcat, not a Mustang or Camaro that people generally ******* out to sound like dump trucks... which is what the Hellcat on straight pipes sounds like. Sure, it's loud... but sound quality wise, it sounds like a loud dump truck.
