I'd like to reach out to my fellow Hellcatians for your input and advice. As always I want to start by saying I love my car. I can't wait for it to come out of storage in April and the smiles per mile to resume. However when my car was built someone failed to notice that when they were installing the windshield a relatively large goop of black urethane dropped right beside the right dash defogger air vent. I drove the car until the first required oil change (just before I parked it for the season). The dealer was very professional about it. They have tried to remove the urethane as best they can but there is a residue. They don't want to do more then they have done for fear of ruining the texture of the dash. They have advised that if I am not satisfied with their efforts they are more than willing to replace the dashboard next year when I take it out.
I've tried to clean it up but it still shows up and I am always going to know it is there (lets say 1/2" x 11/2"). My question to everyone is would you be willing to have the dealer completely remove the entire dash assembly to get at the front dashboard? I fear rattles for the rest of the cars life.

I say if you did not notice it before you purchased the car, then I would dig deep and learn how to live with it. If it was THAT obvious, then you would have seen it right away. Now, I will tell you that if I try, I can find several things wrong with my paint, the underside of my car was slopped with salt and so on. You are right, if they remove the dash, they may do a great job, but then you will find a scratch on the right rear quarter panel that you think that they caused or like you say, the dash will start to squeak in a month or two, and you will never know if they created it or would it have been there anyways etc.......

Trust me, if you were to give me a ride in your car I bet I would not notice that spot. Take a deep breath and forget about it. Concentrate on all the good things the car has to offer = 487,396 good things and ONE spot.

Out of storage in APRIL? You seriously need to head south. We have plenty of room for you here in Texas friend.

I can't imagine replacing the entire dashboard and done right but at the same time it would drive me nuts. However $3k or $4k rebate would make it easier to live with.

The top of the back of my rear seat is wrinkled. Dealer said they would replace it a year ago and still waiting for the cover to come in. It has been so long, I rather like it the way it is. Its unique and the way it came in May 2015.

Taking out the dash? Not a chance.

That picture makes it look bad. I would get it out of storage early or now and have it done. No need to lose anymore drive time.

Again that is the before shot. Now it is quite flush but the dash grain is not visible and when I clean the dash that spot always looks different (different shine). They also need to replace one of the stripes on the trunk and did not want to tackle that until the weather got warmer (next year).

The radio telematics module is a separate unit from the "dash pad". In short ... NO.
Would I let a dealer replace it.
Nope, not a chance.

Tough choice valid reasons to do or not. Good luck. Sucks to tuck away a new car for the season eh. I will wait till may for mine as there is too much crap on the road in April here.

had a scratch on my headlight from the factory, dealer replaced it no problem, picked up car drove to a friends house, popped the hood to check out the hemi, went to shut it hood was hitting nose piece had to push down the front nose to close it to prevent contact and paint damage, took it back and they were gonna slide the hood back, I told then hell no so they paid the local body shop to fix it, great guys said the air box was in upside down. I wouldn't let them touch it. who knows if they competent enough to do it, my dealer wasn't.

Maybe there is a clip on dress up the defroster vents bling. It might look cool after all they dress up gas caps, license plates, door handles etc. ........you could start a trend

Did you try applying some heat to the spot while using any of the removal solutions?
It looks like what ever is used has to be done delicately.

Sometimes same product will remove same product, but I think the urethane must dry too fast.

That's hard one.

I couldn't agree with Markp more, as I read the original post I was thinking, "Gee, this is a tough question!" I think I would rather deal with the blemish or maybe get a Dash Mat to hide it rather than run the risk of rattles. Once they remove that piece it will never be like it was coming from the assembly plant.
