Sure, but then please explain the cost of modern tv's, cell phones, computers, etc. that were crazy outrageous when they first came out. 10 years ago, a 65" TV was $1500. Now, a decent 65" TV is only $800.
Technology will become available to make the batteries cheaper. It just takes time. Prices will also come down as more people start buying EV's.
FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of EV's, but I do own one and enjoy it. I will be selling it or replacing it before the battery warranty is up. I'm not gonna be like the people who think it's somehow cool to bash cars that are faster than theirs just because they don't make any noises and it's not their cup of tea.
Not bashing EVs here, they are very impressive but I don't want one although I think they're cool as hell performance wise. I just watched a youtube video of a Rivian silently pull a tractor pull sled to full pull with ease. My problem is like you just stated its great for you and you intend to get rid of it BEFORE the battery warranty is up.....that is the problem! What happens to it after you trade it in? The middle class family buying it and then realizing that they have to buy a battery that cost more than the car, like the family in Florida that just bought a used Ford EV and after 6 months found out the battery needs replaced. Car was $11,00 used, battery is $14,000 BUT no longer made so they can't buy a replacement no matter how much they'll pay. So now what? Aftermarket EV batteries and maybe they make one for your ten year old car, maybe they don't!
EVs are not cleaner, batteries are not easily disposed of or recycled, electric has to come from somewhere to charge them and as stated earlier that is not solar or wind or hydro. That needs to be nuclear to supply what will be needed, larger metro areas can't keep up with summertime air conditioning needs now let alone charge 100,000s or millions of EVs!! Then what about those that live in frigid climates? Sorry but batteries suck butt in cold weather...period!
I think this push to do away with all ICE engines is ridiculous and should be tackled by looking at cleaner fuels as mentioned earlier.
I think you build an electric vehicle with a small gas engine that runs a generator, you could run it on a small lawn mower types engine? Like trains, submarines and the like, maybe I'm wrong but I do not think we are on the correct path at this time.
Anyway LONG LIVE OUR AMERICAN MUSCLE in some form!
