Yea, I spoke to him several times too since we both had Jazz Blue Hellcats at one point before he sold his and got the Redeye. We were also somewhat mutual acquaintances through Curt Dusterhoff since he tuned both of our cars. One thing I remember most about Simon was that he was always all about doing the least amount of mods and maximizing that as much as possible before adding more power. He was a big believer that most people chased more power than they really needed to accomplish their goals. Simon was a fantastic driver and very detailed in his logs about each of his passes. If I recall, I think he told me once he had every one of his timeslips he ever ran going back several years.
His approach was what I decided I would do myself. I log everything on every run weather wise. I learned a bunch from him about that .
I get asked what my car will run at the track on any day, so I look at the weather data and respond with a time.
People can't believe how accurate I am.😂
My car has finally strayed from stock slightly with just a tune after 5 years.
Simon wanted to get a 9 second run in his blue car and did with E85. So my goal is to do it with out using Ethanol. 🤞
Simon is why I am going with Curt for tuning.
At the moment HPindy raised my shift points, fattened up the fueling a little in spots and pulled a little timing because our winter blend gas is such crap here. We ran 10.12 with stock pulleys, full weight. Even managed a 1.46 60' time that day with my 2.62 gears.
Simon is a big part of why my car runs the numbers it does. His helping me is also why I try to help anyone that asks.
His passing has bothered me more than one would think considering we never even met.
He told someone once my home track was on his bucket list. Unfortunately he never got out here.
