Just bought a 2020 F8 Green Hellcat Widebody Redeye. I am very excited about my purchase but I need a copy of the Satin Finish Tips booklet that comes with the Painted Satin Black Graphics Package. The 6 page fold-out booklet measures 4 1/2 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall and is titled “SATIN FINISH TIPS”. I called the dealership and Dodge customer service and still no luck running down a copy of this booklet. The booklet that came with the car got wet and the pages stuck together. Someone tried to open the pages and the print separated from the pages. This car will be my first experience caring for a satin black finish and from what I have read, it’s different than normal paint. I have read information on various websites about how to care for this type of finish but I would still like to have a copy of the Dodge booklet that came with the car. Anyone out there that has either the satin black hood or the satin black package (hood, top, and trunk satin black) that could copy the 6 page booklet for me would be greatly appreciated. Even better, tell me where I can get a copy. Don’t know if the factory in Canada would even help me.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading everyone’s comments and being part of this forum. Small group of us out there. I think I read only 348 2020 Hellcat Redeye’s were made and only 11 were F-8 Green. All of a sudden I feel pretty special!

In a bit, I'll try and share my pamphlet with you. But in the interim, here's basically what you need to do:
  • When washing, always use a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. No brushes. Use a non-wax, non-shine auto soap. I use Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte car wash.
  • Don't wax it. Use a proper matte or satin sealant instead. I use Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Sealant. I've also used Chemical Guys JetSeal. This is MUCH cheaper than the Beasley's, but it's more difficult to apply evenly. The Beasley's is far superior. Using a wax or a shine enhancer on the satin paint will turn it slightly grey. The more you use it, the greyer it will become. You'll also start noticing some dull tiger striping as it wears off. If this ever occurs, Chemical Guys makes a Citrus car wash that can be used to strip the paint of chemical sealants, ceramics, and wax... safely.
  • Dirt/Mud/Bird droppings: Never wipe these off with a dry rag. Hyper saturate the spot with water or soap/water and remove gently. You can also use those premixed waterless car wash sprays as well.
  • Never take the car through an automatic car wash (more on this below).
  • Swirl marks, scratches: Sit in a chair and stare at them. Stare hard. They'll be there forever. You can't use scratch fix compounds or touch-up paint on a satin finish as these will either destroy the finish or make any attempted corrections look horrible. Satin is a paint treatment overlaid on top of the matte finish beneath. This is almost impossible to correct without stripping it and repainting it completely. It's probably even cheaper to just order a new satin hood from the dealership.

Respectfully,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I will follow your instructions. I did buy Chemical Guys matte detailer spray sealant, Wizards wipe down matte finish detailer, and Starbrite ultimate matte finish detailer and protectant.I will get Dr Beasley matte paint sealant and try it. Your notes will definitely help. My email address is [email protected] if you have the time to take pictures of the booklet. It would be nice to have but your comments will keep me from messing up a good thing. Thanks again!

Sent you an email with some images of the actual manual. I noted in my email, for some reason, it rearranged the picture placement. Page 1 is the image that has red on the left side of the image. Swipe right for the next pages, then it starts over with the first 4.

I had a 19 T/A 392 and had the car ceramic coated by a good shop. It didnt change the color or gloss of the satin but it was really easy to clean and take care of. After 52,000 miles and 2 winters with the car outside the hood (and whole car) still looked new.

FYSA for nicks, Testors semi gloss black was a near perfect match for my satin hood

I’ve tried different brand satin/matte cleaners. The best stuff for me is Harley Davidson Denim Cleaner. I buy it at the local Harley shop for $10. Works way better than the expensive stuff I’ve tried. No film no steaks no smudges. Works great!

The T/A is vinyl. The 2020+ PSG Hellcats are a factory painted satin finish. Vinyl can be touched up and heat treated… no such luck with satin paint. The satin paint is more durable and more resistant to incidental damage though.

The hoods on all T/As are satin painted just like those cars. The roof trunk and stripe are vinyl.

Starting in 2020, you are correct. They are painting the hoods on the T/A. My guess is because like with my 2018, the vinyl only held up for 4-5 months before it started shredding due to bug/rock impacts.

Honestly, the thing you should immediately do is get a decent clear film on it ASAP. The matte satin paint has no clear coat on it and it will chip if you look at it with a mean face. I don't know why the factory doesn't apply a matte clear coat, because that does exist.

Thanks for your reply. I will look into the clear coat. Sounds like the clear coat is a necessity in order to maintain a good finish!

I will make a note of the Testors touch up paint. Good to know . I will look into the ceramic coating. Definitely need to find the right shop with good experience and even better reviews.

Thanks for explaining the difference between the vinyl and the painted satin finish.

You are saying you had a 2018 T/A with a vinyl wrap hood?

All T/A hoods were painted satin as far as I know. The piece on the nose that matched up to the hood and the roof and trunk were vinyl but the hoods should have been painted at the Upfitter when they installed all the vinyl.

So not sure what happened with your car.

Here's a snip of a build sheet from a 2017 T/A..

392 Fender Decal
T/A Spoiler Decal
Grille Badge - Challenger Script
Rear Black Spoiler
Satin Wrap Roof/Decklid
Black Satin Painted Hood

Exterior Mirrors w/Heating Element

True. All T/A hoods are painted Satin. My 18 was painted and I bought it new off the lot in June 2018. The F8 T/A next to it was Painted. My friends 18 was painted, friends 19 was painted etc. My window sticker says its painted.

Xylander if yours wasnt painted, something went wrong somewhere. Maybe dealer Ef'd it up and wrapped it or maybe the upfitter did as a way to get it out of there fast. As Slidd said, the nose roof and trunk are wrapped, hood painted.

My 2018/TA was definitely not painted. You can sort of see the hood here in this photo. I don't have a clear underhood shot with the hood raised in full view. You can still see that the hood is in fact white. If you could see the vinyl, you can clearly see how they wrapped it around the leading edges of the hood and folded it over at the corners.

My Hellcat's hood is satin on both top and matte on the underside.

Is it possible you can send the me an email as well with the same images. I just dropped my car off for services and the dealership has ruined my paint by just being careless. They want to use some off brand polisher and wax to buff it out and I'm telling them that Dodge gave me a pamphlet saying not to do those things. my email is [email protected]. Thank you
I can't do that anymore, sorry. I sold my Hellcat and the manual along with it :(

I'll tell you right now, that that damage likely can't be fixed. Not with rubbing some crap on it. That's a vinyl and if they can't fix it with a heat treatment... it would be cheaper for all involved to just replace the vinyl. You might be able to find a PDF of that document if you google search, "Dodge Satin Care"

Hey, thank you anyway, I’ve been searching the internet and found a matte finish hellcat pamphlet but the this attached one… ima keep looking though, thanks
Keep in mind that yours isn't painted. It's a vinyl. So that satin care guide you're talking about won't apply unless you're talking about the T/A's hood... which is painted. The rest (roof, trunk deck, side stripes) are vinyl stickers.
