Title is sorta' click baity because I went back and forth, myself, and maybe this will help someone else.

TL;DR: I was convinced getting a Scat Pack widebody was the more reasonable purchase for a daily driver until I drove a Hellcat, personally.

For anyone interested, here's the long version:

I've posted here about my interest in the Scat Pack widebody with Shaker Package. I had it all planned out with mods like paint matching the scoop, etc. I was hesitating as long as I could endure in hopes there would be a surprise announcement on a bigger NA engine. I might've kept holding out if I hadn't taken a trip to New York to visit the in-laws. My brother-in-law owns a Hellcat and heard of my intent on getting the Scat Pack, so he insisted I borrow his Hellcat for a day.

Those of you who have had the pleasure of putting your foot down on that 700+ HP throttle know what's coming. I switched the car between ECON and 700+ modes to get a rough idea of the contrast between Scat pack and Hellcat power. The Scat Pack ain't no slouch. I knew this, already, but was unaware of the MONSTROUS presence of a Hellcat. Good lord in heaven, what a beast!

With the Scat Pack, there would, inevitably, come a day when one would feel like they're the master of that car. With a Hellcat, one is never the master. The best one hopes for is acquiring the skills necessary to keep her from getting away from you. She wants to go and go fast. She dares you to press the throttle more than 10%.

She beckons you!

For anyone on the fence, if money isn't the deciding factor like myself, do NOT buy any other car until you've actually had the pleasure of driving a Hellcat, yourself.

I ordered a 2021 Challenger Hellcat Widebody A8 with the Brass Monkey appearance package and basically every option except the performance spoiler. We could be waiting a bit, but as soon as I'm able, I'll post the photos.

Smart. I wasnt. I did it the hard way. Bought an SRT new back in 2015. About six months in I knew I had to have a Hellcat, although the SRT was no slouch. So after a $10k loss (plus the $2500 sales tax) I traded it in for a Hellcat. Best thing ever.

Had a hellcat first, then job distnace realities forced a change. Now in a 1320. Honestly Not unhappy but the HC is def a step above and worth gettting if you can. Its as docile as you want it to be, and as nuts as you want it to be. Best of both worlds Egg Shen!

Hey, it's always about the money. No one just "picks" the Hellcat over the SP. It's done because of money. I've had both and can attest to the fun a SP has to offer. The price for the upgrade is dear, with most of us willing and able to do it. If I couldn't afford it I would still be drive a SP. So, anyone who has the extra $$$ will spend it happily to achieve the bliss a HC has to offer. With that being said I still think the SP is excellent bang for the buck! I look forward to seeing your (our) dream car in this forum when it arrives.

While the HC and the supercharger are intoxicating, a 392 is one hell of a car. I from time to time regret selling my 2015 SRT. I could drive it like I stole it and never felt like I was going to get way out of sorts. Id never drive my HC like I drove the 392. Bragging rights, I get it but, the 392 is no slouch and a hell of a lot of fun to drive. My son has a TA 392 6 speed and the experience is just as awesome. Im not sure I'd lump every decision into one about the money as everyone is looking for a different experience. Now out for a Sunday drive sneering at the 392s!!😎

I feel ya'. Interesting.

Until you made that comment, I thought that wasn't the case for me because I COULD afford it. My hesitation was based on my assumption I'd never use that much power and it felt like it'd be a waste since I'd be in ECON mode for my daily commute. Logically, though, that's equivalent to being about the money. Of course, it's still the case that I won't be in 700+ mode very often, but once I had the chance to put my own foot on the throttle... reason took a back seat.

you would NEVER be in ECON mode for your daily commute. I thought that too and Nope, never happened willingly. I did use econ for one week straight to compare gas MPG. On combo of twisty PA back roads and I-95 highway, the car got slightly better MPG in Street/sport mode than Econ. Shocking but true in my case.

Last year I was torn on getting a Hellcat Charger or the scat pack widebody. I ended up convincing myself that I didn’t need the completely ridiculous Hellcat and the SPWB would be more than I’d know what to do with it. Well, I love the SPWB, it’s a really fun car. But I couldn’t help but start thinking I should have just gotten the hellcat.

Well this year, checking the trade-in values for the SPWB, I saw I could get a little more for it than I paid. I was also able to get a good price on a new Charger Redeye. Now, I’m in the (hopefully) final week of waiting for delivery of the redeye.

I’m not sure that I would have traded my SPWB if I didn’t get such a good price for it in trading in, as it is a fun car.

09 I bought an RT 6M car over the 6.1L SRT but always regretted it because it wasn’t the top. In 12 I traded up to the 392 SRT 6M and loved it. I drove it hard with complete confidence even with my foot on the floor often but, when the Hellcat came out, I once again found myself wanting but unwilling to pay the price. However, in 19 I came across a slightly used 16 at a price I was willing to pay and I traded up to a 6M Hellcat. I cannot thrash this car like the 392 and so the Hellcat doesn’t give me the cornering, full throttle, tires hook up during hard acceleration satisfaction the 392 did but, the Hellcat is the most satisfying pinnacle of design automobile I have ever driven. Not logical to pay the extra when the 392 satisfied all of my needs and the wants I knew of but, once I drove it, the Hellcat created and satisfied wants I didn’t even know existed.

I was thinking of ordering the scat pack at first for the reason of no one needs that much power. Then I remembered how much I loved my 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 that I bought new. Even with 470HP & TQ sometimes a little more power wouldn't have been bad. I ordered the Redeye.

I ordered a HCREWB and passed on the SPWB as well. When I was doing my shopping, while affordability came in to play, going with the Hellcat was a no brainer. The price difference between the two right now just didn't make sense. If I'm going to sell all of my toys to afford a Challenger, I couldn't justify not going with the HC.

I am seeing SPWB for 55-65k, if you have a good down payment, good credit, and your own financing, the difference between the monthly payments on a SPWB and a HCREWB is minimal. Wait until you have enough cash to close the gap. You will kick yourself otherwise. Unless you are getting a screaming deal on a SPWB for under 40k or something, I just don't see the upside to a SP, aside from the 6 speed.

I love reading about the passion both drivers of these cars bring to the table. The absolute point is they both must be great cars!

I hate you guys. I sold my 2018 HCWB A8. I had almost convinced myself to just get the SPWB as I only drove 5-6k miles a year. With the exception of getting on the ramp to a interstate I was never really able to use all that power. Now, after reading your comments I have decided get a REWB. F*** you all for making me spend 30k extra.
