All,
I have appointment to go to dealer for the new security lockout update in a couple weeks. My question to those who know more than me about key fobs: do I have to go to dealer to get an extra fob programmed? They want like 400 bucks for 1 fob. I believe certain locksmiths can program the fobs if I’m correct? Or is the dealer the only option? I’d like an extra fob but not for 400 bucks.. any help would be appreciated

If you get the update and you should, you will need to bring all the keys to the car. They will replace a module and reprogram your keys for free. Once this is done you can no longer reprogram a key for the car without replacing the module, this is to prevent thieves from stealing your car.

Dodge has recalled the Enhanced Security Valet Mode update. It is no longer available for installation. If you have already had it installed, Dodge recommends having the PCM reverted to the previous software.

Furthermore, they have updated the procedure for the RF-Hub security update. Now, if you elect to have the RF-Hub locked, and you have the Enhanced Security Valet Mode update, they will update (revert) the PCM along with the RF-Hub. The result is that you will only be able to lock the RF-Hub if you accept rollback of the Enhanced Security Valet Mode.

I understand the procedure.. the dealer however wants 400 dollars for an extra fob just incase.. I was wondering if I was able to purchase an program an extra fob without the ass rape the dealer will charge me for an extra fob before the system is completely locked

What’s the typical price for a new fob 300-400 bucks? I guess I just have to accept the cost
That depends on the dealer. I couldn’t get a spare fob programmed properly at 2 different dealers in GA. Can’t remember what I spent in the process. I eventually got a new fob at a CT dealer and they programmed it for reasonable money. It was a few years ago so I don’t remember exactly but it was under 200.

I had the RF hub security update done a few weeks ago. I did not have to take all of my keys in when I did the update. All of my keys still work.
That's what I was thinking, the update only locks out your current HUB right? So your original key FOBs will still work. Now if you want another FOB after, well that will be a problem.

I bought an extra FOB from Original Mopar Parts & Accessories | Mopar Estores. They'll ship it to the parts department at a dealership you choose. Once you pick it up, you can have the service department program it. I think the programming and key cutting ran another $90, but it varies among dealerships (I called 3 or 4 to get the lowest price). I have a 2015, so I don't know if the part #'s will be the same.

Hmm, when i originally went i didn't bring all my keys so they wouldn't preform the update said you had to have all the keys or they wouldn't work after the update. Proofs in the pudding, Go figure....

I spoke with my technician last week about this software. I guess this recall happened since then. Anyway, my technician told me the dealership will be able to make fobs after the update, but only the dealerships.

Correct. Once the hub is locked out, you will not be able to make additional fobs.
I was told by my technician that the dealership will still be able to make FOB's after the update.

Your technician is dead wrong about that. If the dealer locks down the rf-hub, they cannot make anymore keys to that rf-hub. And think about this, anything the dealer has to make keys so do the thieves...where do you think they get the "good" propads? Asshats at the cooperate and dealer level are selling those for about $30,000 a pop.
