Sell brand new scat and get a used hellcat?

Alright so this sounds bad but I’ve got a 2022 charger scat pack plus that I got brand new with 5 miles on it and I haven’t put not even 2k miles on it yet but…. I keep getting this itch for a hellcat. Unfortunately I can’t afford a brand new one which is clearly the best route to go because everybody dogs these SRT’s out and you never know how the last person to own it drove it. It’s about a .5% chance it was babied. I got the new scat bc my price range was 60k for a new vehicle at most which is why I got a scat because I didn’t want to take the chance of buying a used SRT that was dogged out. Not even 2k miles in yet an I’m already wanting more power and to hear that supercharger whine. I love my car but I want more. So my question is it a good idea to sell mine and trade up for arojnd a $60k hellCat charger? With That price range, It would be about a 18-19 with 30/40k miles on it from what im seeing. If it wasn’t for the warranty I would upgrade my internals and put a supercharger in this scat and jus make my own version of a hellcat and have a sleeper scat.. but clearly I don’t wanna void the warranty considering I bought an extra 100k mile warranty and the power brokers that the dealership uses don’t have anything like that on their catalog yet so i would have to void the warranty if I did anything besides bolt on performance mods. Once they release mods for the 392’s in their catalog then I can buy things from them and have them put it on and it stays under warranty no matter what mods I buy and put on it.
My question is should I get a hellcat already even tho it’s brand new? Prolly a stupid question but I’m new to all of this and I jus can’t help but want more power. Doesn’t seem realistic tho to have all that power for a daily whenever I’ll jus be in traffic or somewhere that I’m not even able to use all that power. Essentially it would just be a tire smoking machine.

If you buy a used HC the warranty will be gone or close to being gone so why not save $ and build the SP? You would still have a 3 to 4 year newer car. On the other hand you might be happier with a used HC.

I installed an N/A 426 stroker in my 2 year old SRT392. I wanted something unique and my engine builder gave me a 2 year/24 mo. warranty on anything he touched. Worked out to be a worthwhile gamble for me. If you’re wanting something boosted though, I’d think long and hard about getting into a Hellcat instead. By the time you throw the money needed to upgrade the Scat (engine, trans. etc.), you could have used that money to get a newer used Cat... maybe a 2020 or 2021 with low milage? Used prices are dropping fast.

IDK, happy I found the HC before I dropped coin on a SP, I would have been plenty happy with a $60K Scatt Pack in 2021 but found a 2015 HC for same money with only 23k miles and warranty hasn't expired (lasted 3 months on the 5 year from Dodge). I got in right when the market was flipping out and everyone wanted to buy cars and no one had cars to sell. Whatever you do don't sell your car until you have a HC lined up if you plan on going that way. One guy here went on a road trip across the country to look for a Demon, HC's are already legendary so once the line ends there is a limited pool of cars for sale used. People buying 23's and driving will lose money, the collectors are buying the last editions and sealing them up in vaults with the wrappers on. Some are going to try and flip but will find a +$20K adm eats away any profit, none of the SE's will command respect except from people who think "Special Edition" actually means something, it means stickers and badges. I don't really hate them, they are just not as Special as Dodge would like to make them out as. The SEMA car was supposed to be the real deal but, may not get into production.

You should contact White Trash, he has a few HC's lying around he might sell you.

Ok Scat I just lived this decision a few weeks ago so im going to say GO FOR IT. I had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL Scat Pack 1320 Drag Pack and I decided it was time to trade up to the HellCat.
It was a tuff decision because the 1320 was so Bad Ass and I had all the graphics custom made for me and i put them on myself (never done that before). I also did all the usual basic mods, IRS Brace, Catch Can, HellCat Air Box, Headlight Inlet, Drag Radials, Extra Wheels, etc.... So I felt very close to the car over the years and got dam it is fast, i could cut 3.8 sec 60 fts on the Nexen's on the street.

I had 30,000 miles on my 2019 1320 and searched through HUNDREDS of Hellcats over many months to find what I wanted (although it was older than I expected to buy). HOWEVER.....
Quick Facts...
Got about $39,000 for my 1320 (paid less when I bought it at the tail end of 2020)
Talked him down from $65,900.00 to $59,450.00, also got them to take off the $1,495.00 EPP (whatever that was, LOL). All Recalls done, New Cats, New Brakes, New Battery, All Computer Updates, All Fluids Changed, Flawless Car Fax...

The 2016 Hellcat has dam near half the milage (18,000), I live in Long Island NY and it was bought in Westbury Dodge (here in Long Island) and owned by orig owner to 17,500 miles and he traded it in to same Westbury Dodge Dealership. They then sold it to someone else here in Long Island (Levittown) who had it 2 years and 2 months and put 350 miles on it.

Even know ill never use it (and prob already voided it, LOL) I bought a 36,000 3 yr Bumper to Bumper Wrrnty and I COULD NOT BE MORE HAPPY
There is NO COMPARISON between the two. I've had 12 or 13 Supercharged Performance Vehicles in the past and all I can say is... ONCE YOU'VE BEEN BLOWN THERE IS NO GOING BACK

The SP has a weak engine for FI. It will cost a LOT of money to get HC power out of a SP, and of course invalidate the warranty in the process. I parted out an 800whp build for my T/A 392 a few years back and the cost was going to be approaching $30,000. Thus, for $80k, I could get a Hellcat... so I in fact sold my T/A and bought a $73k Hellcat. It was cheaper and it had a warranty.

I agree. Buy a Hellcat used. I was in the market for a Scat Pack this spring. I found a 2015 Hellcat with 4900 miles For the cost of a new SP. Unmodded garage queen. 62k. Mint hellcats are out there, just don't expect a great deal on a super clean one.
The SP was fun to drive but the HC is a whole new level.

I agree with a lot of what HellcatHellYeah said, IDK either.

You have a great car that will go over 100k mi and has the full warranty. It is a great daily driver, maybe use it and enjoy it, drive it everyday to work and on trips. The used HC will suck cash, they are overpriced now so your resale will likely be poor. Even if you do get the last year of a 5/60 warranty, if the previous owner abused it, you may have a can of worms.

Best I can suggest is to keep your eyes open for a good car locally for a fair price. Make sure you buy it from the original owner so you can meet him and make sure his is not a nut. Be prepared with your own financing so the seller will get full payment at sale. Have your dealer give it a through check. Confirm any remaining warranty, then keep your fingers crossed.

Put Scat badging on a Hellcat. That'd be even more fun.

My decision was easier. In 2020, I upgraded from a 2013 R/T Classic to a 2015 Hellcat with just over 7000 miles. I paid $48k (weeks before the chip shortage exploded used car prices). Today my cat is valued at $51k by Hagerty and might bring $57k private sale.

SXT badging on a Hellcat. Hang out at the track. Take sucker bets...
Funny you mention that. I already have the basic Challenger script on the right side of the grille, and when walking back to the house a moment ago I thought "Have to look up an SXT badge for the rear".

Google, here I come.

I had the EXACT dilemma with you. Bought a new 2022 F8 Scat WB for 55k. I got the car to about 2k miles. Babied it but kept thinking about a Hellcat, the power of it, the whine of it. I ADORED my Scat. Even just loving the Scat, I downloaded Carvana, CarGuru, KBB, Craigslist, Cars.com app and searched for a Hellcat. I was pretty much just looking at the pictures of it and dreamt about it. I even called some dealers about it just to see if they would lower the HC, just for shits and giggles UNTIL a couple days ago, I found a 2018 HC, NB, fully loaded, mint condition about 10k miles for 60k. I knew it was not practical and did not make financial sense because I JUST bought the Scat about a month ago but i managed to talk down the price to 57k. I traded in the Scat for about 50k. (Took a loss, obviously) and got the HC. Couldn‘t be happier. It’s been a blast to drive and the power of it is out of this world. Hearing the supercharger whine. OMG. Got a 4 year extended warranty for about 7k which is in effect the day i bought the car so essentially, IMO, kinda new. A HC for 64K (Warranty included), fully loaded, minus the WB package. I do plan on getting the WB and wider wheels someday but I DO feel that I have the car of my dreams.

Before doing the trade, I did plan to get the whipple for the scat, drop in some forged pistons and rods, build the tranny to handle the supercharger, and some other precautionary things and that ended up to be around 20-22k and that would’ve killed my warranty plus I didn’t want to rely on finding someone to fix my car issues, other than Mopar and having to spend money to fix the car, if I was not able to find out the issue of the car. Also if I decided to sell the car, it would’ve been harder since the car would’ve had aftermarket parts.

So if you plan on getting a HC and if you can afford one, IMO, get one. : )

Bought a new 2018 Scat Pack Dec. 17, 2017. Almost 2 months later to the day with just over 2K miles traded it in for a new 2018 Hellcat.

Drove the Hellcat 33 months and put 27.5K miles on it then early Nov 2020 traded it for another Scat Pack, a 2020 model. Did this after I left CA for AR.

The Hellcat was ok for a while but then I was faced with owning it out of warranty. It also wasn't not as much fun to drive. Not every road is made for a 707hp car...

My usage of the Hellcat delivered 15mpg. This in CA. My daily driver, a 2018 MINI JCW that I bought Dec. 27, 2017, with the same usage delivered 30mpg.

The 2nd Scat Pack was fitted with high performance tires -- both the 1st Scat Pack and the Hellcat came with all season tires (all season tires on a Hellcat....). The higih performance tires made a difference and for the better. The Scat Pack weighed less and clearly carried its weight lower to the ground.

In hindsight I probably should have kept the 1st Scat Pack, and when the time came replace the all season tires with high performance tires.

True. With its low ground clearance, a 'Cat isn't ideal on badly maintained forest service roads, for example.

Also, after studying the owners manual I found a way to regulate those 707 horses (there's a thin pedal on the right side of the foot well specifically for the purpose), and by using it properly the 'Cat is now my favorite car.

Of course, "properly" is a relative term. But often driving at twice the speed limit and still get a bit over 22 mpg is proper enough for me.

Warranty? I don't even know if mine is still in effect. If I worried about it I'd get an extended warranty. If/when something breaks, I'll do my best to fix it myself.
