After seeing they are serious, I would offer to take THEM for a ride as a passenger. After that I would ask if they want the car and if they say yes pending they drive it, I'd get a copy of their license and insurance card and let them drive it with me as a passenger. I would ask them for how they would pay for it and all that before they drive it(making sure it makes sense is logical). I wouldn't accept somehthing fishy.

Personally, probably not. But I would be happy to take them out for a drive. Or at least let them gat a feel for it with black key. You are only protecting yourself from headaches.

When I bought my Hellcat, wife and I were able to take it to lunch and a 15 mile drive. I left our trade- in there and they then took that for a drive, 15, 392 Hemi SRT Challenger, they knew we were responsible buyers. I guess you can tell if buyers are very interested or just want a joy ride. We did travel about 140 miles to see, test and purchase it, that alone probably showed we were serious, responsible buyers.

when I traded in my 2012 Charger D-C didn't even look at it in person. That was only 10,500 though.
Same thing would apply for me, trading in a HC would be black key, eco mode with me in the car and the used car manager driving if necessary. They WANT these trade ins, you've got leverage to set the rules.

If you aren't willing to allow a test drive sell it to a dealership.

For me, I 100% will not buy any car (new or used) without driving it first. Riding in a car is way different than driving it plus you can't tell if a car drives right in the passenger seat.

You need to make sure they have insurance, your car is insured, copy of drivers license and you go for the ride with them. And, nothing wrong with making them sign a "you break it you buy it" type contract. This goes with my next point... Their is nothing wrong with making them prove financial responsibility to buy the car as well before they drive. I'll take anyone on a joyride but they wont test drive until I am confident they are serious in buying the car and can prove they have the ability to buy. I also ALWAYS meet up with the potential buyer at my local police station. I don't want people knowing where I live (at least that easily) and while not fool proof on a car jacking risk, it does help to provide some extra security for not only me but the potential buyer (as they are generally on edge too these days).

I would never buy a car without driving it unless it was brand new. Used one with private sale, I'd allow a normal test drive and if they want to "feel the power", you drive it and show it to them. But NEVER buy/sell a used car without a test drive. You are opening up yourself to the blame game if something is off or feels off to the new owner.

What about selling it to a dealer? the dealer needs to be sure things are good beyond the inspection. Would you let a dealership test drive your car?
Dealer will probably be good with a short ride in the parking lot and a check that most basic things like the radio and a/c work, with the condition that most here keep their cars in I highly doubt they will go on any long test drive.

They're at auctions most every week buying cars and they're surely not driving them before handing over the check.

And on selling privately, this is another risk when you do this, you never know who is going to show up and many have had their cars stolen or even been shot and killed trying to sell a car. The hell with that, test drives to some Joe on the street? You gotta be crazy. Trade it in and take the tax break or dump it at Carvana, Give me the VIN, Carmax, etc and move on with life, it ain't worth it.

What if a potential buyer want to test drive my Hellcat? How would you handle it?
No test drives. When I private sell mine, I write up a bill of sale that gives them 30 minutes after they pay for it to drive it around and return it and void the sale, so long as it is damage free. If it needs to go to their mechanic for an inspection, I drive it over there. I'll test drive it for them and they can ride shotgun... but at no point do I ever hand the keys over and say, "have fun."

There's very few people on this planet I've let drive my cars, and all of them are experienced drivers like myself. If I don't know the person, they don't drive the car. Test drive or otherwise. I've had a few people walk and refuse to make an offer without a test drive. That's fine because there's 10 more people in line.

I wonder how many folks saying they wouldn't allow for a test drive, would themselves buy a used car without themselves first test driving it. I sure as hell wouldn't. Not unless you're offering me a free 1 year warranty in order to take care of any issues that come up.
