Hi,

Hypothetically, let's say you have a pretty new, low miles, stock Hellcat. You find a shop to do audio work and they couldn't finish in time so you leave it there. Would it be possible for them to switch out your motor for a say, 2015, higher mileage, worn down engine without you knowing? Is it possible for them to switch out the VIN tag attached to the motor?

What ways can I verify if they have or have not done so. Just curious. I know our Hellcat engine is in high demand. Is this far fetched and i'm just paranoid?

Thanks : )

I think if you are this uneasy about leaving it with the shop, it shouldn't be left with them.

Now that my unneeded opinion is out of the way... 😆 to your question...

I have read that the VIN is labeled on the block (could be wrong) that will match the vin on the chassis. But there are much smarter people here than me.

There is a Q code on the block. I am not certain but think it may be traceable to the vehicle VIN. If you need a pic of it I cam maybe get one off a short block in my shop so you know where and what to look for. Dodge dealer should be able to answer.

That is some audio shop, I mean being able to swap motors ect.

Wow dude, what else you worry about? Easily paranoid, get your tinfoil hat on when you walk into that shop too they may try and scan your brain waves.

I think they staged the engine swap to hide the fact they copied your house keys. Later to pull up in U-Haul's and empty your house prior to leasing it to potential squatters. Not to mention using your registration and insurance card to get lender info to gain access to financal information, clean out your accounts, steal your identity and call in some SWATTING incidents and order Jimmy John's from your pirated cell phone.... sleep tight and be hopeful they only took your engine 😯🤣

I'd say no. Only because every audio shop I've ever dealt with has 5 employees. A meth head, a high school drop out, a black guy who MCs/raps on the weekends, a white guy who thinks he is as good as the black guy, and the shop owner who looks like a retired school bus driver with a neck beard. They all wear knit beanies or flat brim ball caps.

These people can't change oil. And half the time, they can't install an amp without causing some sort of electrical short.

No shop is going to go through the hassle and effort to do something as insane as trying to steal your engine. A shady thug-run shop would just tell their thug friends they have a Hellcat in the shop, turn the cameras off for "maintenance" and let them steal the whole damn car for a $5,000 kick-back. But, to answer your question directly. No, they can't steal the engine without you knowing. It'll throw codes for days unless they buy you a $1,200 unlocked PCM, tune it, chase down all the codes, clear the history... and then you'd still get the P1400 invalid warranty code as your car is part matched to itself... and any change to the PCM, engine, trans, body control module or TCM is going to trip that P1400.

So, no. No audio shop this side of Tijuana is going to try and steal your engine. They'd steal the whole car. That being said, I would -NEVER- leave any of my cars overnight in ANY audio shop, for ANY reason. If they can't finish, then I can take it and bring it back.
