For those who know me, there is one car that when asked, I will say without pause is my favorite car of all time. That would be the 1970 Coronet Super Bee, 440 Six Pack with the 4spd pistol grip manual in sublime. I have been looking for the right car for years as these cars are a lot like square bird Thunderbirds in that they have some known flaws that can cause some serious body and frame rust. They're also one of the most faked Mopars in that finding a WM V code car with the right motor still in it can be challenging. Most Super Bees you see at car shows were 318 or 383 equipped WS R/Ts that have been faked (tribute cars).

But, here's one I found that has me very close to pulling the trigger. 2,908 original miles. Full numbers matching car with its original engine and trans. Full concourse restoration engine and transmission rebuild was performed on the car in 2012. Price is cheaper than the Jailbreak:

I put $1,000 down to hold it for 7 days while I think it over.

It takes a special kind of person to like the '70 Super Bee front end.
Does seem to be a love it or hate it thing.

Great color, not a fan of rear spoilers on 70 B bodies, and the engine callout on the fender is a bid odd. From seeing that I would question the concourse status of the restoration.

Still better than the Super Bird hacked on corvette nose but, I got to admit while they are not the prettiest cars they are badass.

IDK what they are asking, what they had to replace vs. what is original so putting $1k down isn't something I could bless/condemn. From the sound of it and how it looks and if you have the disposable income and space to store it then why not? I certainly would if I were looking for that car, seems like this may be one of those times where you may not get another chance for awhile and inflation is ever increasing on these MOPARS. Are you passing over another vehicle to get this one?

If I got it, I'd pass over the Jailbreak and buy something like a light truck and still end up cheaper than the Jailbreak. This Coronet is priced at 68k.

Just to be clear, I don't dislike them but they get a lot of criticism.
Oh for sure. The 70 B body Super Bee is weird. I like the front end... because it's weird. I am also not a huge fan of the spoiler and I'd never put one like that on any other car... but the 70 Coronet is a grand collection of odd. I like it because it's weird, big, and ugly.

The reason why I like this car in particular is because it has all OEM original NOS or certified repro parts. That's why it isn't 110k or so for a low miles survivor car with a certified restoration with reconditioned original or NOS parts. What it does have though is the original torsion bar suspension, all of the gauges and lights work, and absolutely everything mechanically works right now. As we know, that will change every other week as these cars need constant wrenching if you drive them. But, the car is a completely accurate 1970 time capsule with not a single part on the car that isn't period correct.

Looking around, price is slightly higher than being offered for others but yours is the 440 as all of theirs are not, this one is similar but notice how much more work was put into restoring yours compared to that. The one thing is your JB would be new and all original and could keep it that way for the next 20 years so it's value should be far more in the future. A Sophie's car choice, I can get out my lucky quarter if you need help deciding.

Edit
seeing last post, get it, you want it more.

I'd pass on the JB order I have. I would rather have the Jailbreak. If I got this car, I'd also have to buy something to drive as I couldn't drive this regularly. This car + something like a used pickup truck would still come in cheaper than the JB... and at least on the Coronet, I'm a fairly competent carb wizard and can do most of the regular maintenance myself. I can only store 1 car in the garage though. I don't have room for a JB and a Coronet, sadly. I have the funds if I really wanted to, but I'd be pushing it with the wife if I did :)

I've owned a few classics in the past and I know what it takes to store, maintain, and enjoy them. It takes a lot of time and patience. If you do your own work, the cost isn't too bad since most of the under hood parts are fairly inexpensive. For example, I can get a full set of plugs for a 440 for the cost of 2 plugs for a Hellcat and I can advance/retard the timing without a laptop.

As I mentioned above, it is a badass car and it is ugly as hell. I don't know why, but that's kind of why I like it. The only thing I wish this one had was the Fresh Air hood (twin snorkel that they based the current Hellcat's off of).

I am with ya….I always loved the ‘70 Coronets….especially the Super Bees. Thats a sweet one there! But for me, having a well done tribute with a 440 would be plenty good enough for me Since I want to put some miles on it.

I also love the ‘71 Charger R/T too Since I used to own a plain jane 72 Charger 318 for many years….I still regret not keeping that car… Automotive parking light Car Tire Vehicle Hood

If you want to send me a link to the car I'd be happy to give you an honest opinion. (If you look at my thread you can see I have a little bit of background in restoring these things for the past four decades or so.)

It's a Lynch Road built car so the fender tag is not going to tell you much. Lynch Road was terrible about filling in their codes on the tags. That's why this tag looks so strange. I can already see it has an aftermarket distributor setup and radiator. The hood scoop inserts should be body color and it should not have the 440 Sixpack emblems on the fenders. Easily fixable stuff (other than the emblem holes if they drilled them) but if you like it, that's all that matters.

They are such angry, brutal cars but those big B-body Mopars do ride so nicely compared to the E-body Cudas and Challengers.

Like you, I adore that "love it or hate it" styling of the nose. They look so damn mean.

Wrenching is the most fun part of owning one of these old dinosaurs. It brings back great memories of when YOU were the brains behind how fast your car could go. There is so much fun in tuning to a razor's edge on something that is totally not computer controlled in any way, shape, or form.

looks in good shape. Definitely a classic. I would pull the trigger, plus available now vs waiting for something that might be delayed again. Cant go wrong with a 440 Six Pack and a 4 speed.

The major detractor on the car is that the engine isn't numbers matching, which is why it isn't a $100,000 car. It is a period correct engine. The stamp on the engine makes it a 01/1970 440 mill, the car was built in May. So, at least the replacement was a period correct one. From what I was told, the original engine failed in the 1972-1973 range and it was replaced with a new crate engine. I also don't believe that the miles are actual. It would be cool if it was, but my guess is that they rolled the odometer when they did the rebuild on the car in 2012. But sure, here's the link. I'd welcome any feedback. I don't know these as well as I do classic Fords:
