To start I think I should mention I’ve never done a sound system but I’m 99% sure I can do it I’m just hoping to get some pointers so I don’t screw it up. I have the alpine(cheap) system and I was going to start with a custom box for two 12” subs. I was looking at the skar brand specifically. Has anyone used these? I can post links between the two I’m looking at. As for as changing speakers in the car itself I’m a little more weary of that. Can someone educate me please

SKAR Audio is pretty decent, especially there amps. There are better brands though.

Digital Designs, DC Audio, Incriminator Audio, Sundown Audio, Sound Solutions Audio and American Bass are all superior to SKAR albeit they do cost a bit more when comparing similar products.

First off, everyone hears differently, but the 2 DC Level 3 10"s in a 2 cu.ft ported box tuned at 33hz on a DC 2K in my silverado hit hard and sound great. If you aren't familiar with the importance of a well built box and the differences in sound between a ported and sealed box, spend some time at some custom audio shops and give them a listen. Wal-Mart subs in a quality box will outperform quality subs in a garbage box.

Getting into the specs and T/S parameters of different subs/brands can be a very long topic going into a DEEP rabbit hole.

Wow, I actually loved the base Alpine system in my 392. I disconnected the rears and used that signal to drive an amp for one 10" subwoofer. That was perfection to my ears.

This is the box I was looking at ordering. Would you know if it’s any good? I live in a small oil town so my nearest audio shop is going to be about 2 hours one way.

I don’t think they’re necessarily bad. My Jeep Wrangler has a horrible system but I only use that for hunting and missing/off roading. I just want to do some work on this car. I figured why not make a perfect system for my dream car

It's great. Fits without any mounting screws, just push it in. Never had it slide out.

The specs on that box aren't bad, 3/4" MDF, 2.5 cu.ft of airspace and a 30hz tune. I don't know about about that particular company so I can't comment on the build quality, but at $235 it's worth a shot IMO.

Make sure whatever subs you choose for the box are suggested to perform well in a 1.25 cu. ft. ported box. The port in that box is tuned to 30hz, which is a bit on the lower side, so be sure and look at the T/S parameters on the sub and choose something with an Fs in the 28-32 hz range.

As a general rule of thumb, stay away from any company that does not have T/S parameters easy to find. Also, depending on how much power you are looking to run, it may be a good idea to upgrade your battery.

have fun going down the rabbit hole of car audio upgrades. Take lots of pictures along the way and post them here as you go forward. Good luck!

Thank you for that, and the more I ask the more I realize there is a lot more that go into this than I originally thought. I still plan on doing this but I will be asking more questions along the way I’m sure

Between Skar and Kicker which would you say is better quality? I’m not set on Skar but I heard some good things so I’m trying to get a really good system. I do plan on replacing the speakers in the car itself also. There is just so much info and opinions and I’m just so ignorant to all of this.

I would choose SKAR over Kicker. SKAR subs and amps are fine. Mids/Highs not so much IMO.

For mid's and high's, I would go for a different brand. Hybrid Audio, Focal, MB Quart, Arc Audio, JL Audio are all very good quality and popular choices.

I ordered the rear strut tower from speedlogix and I ordered this box. I’m hoping it fits under the strut tower. The tower will get here Monday and the box maybe Tuesday. What other material will I need if any to get it hooked up? This is the one I ordered Dual 8" 1,400 Watt SDR Series Complete Subwoofer Package with Vented Enclosure and Amplifier
