Drove my 2018 Challenger A8 HC yesterday morning no issue. I went to go back out 3 hours later and held down the start button. It cranked but didn't immediately fire as normal. I let off the button and it continued to crank...I pushed the button and released, continued to crank...pushed the button 2x more and it then stopped. I waited 20-30 seconds pushed the button and it fired up immediately no other issue. My only idea is could the push button have gotten stuck in the depressed position internally? Any other ideas?

Dude wasn't there something about some models starting themselves for no reason??
not that I am aware of, I've never owned an auto car so the clutch safety switch debunks that everytime. Now, let a best buy audio installer touch you car/put a remote start on it and I bet theres some funny shit that follows lol

It'd be hard for these to self-start given the pressure the brake pedal needs to allow the ignition to engage, but theres always lemons

Don't hold the button down, with A8 you just press it once and release and it will start on its own.

Only mods, BWoody CAI...catch can, mid-muffler delete, Hellcat puddle lights (I've ruled that out, lol) battery is good and securely in place.

Is it possible to put it in that condition holding down the start button? Even so why wouldn't it stop cranking after it was released?

Thanks for your input

Baffling. No idea. I remember hearing about some challengers starting by themselves, I finally found it, it was the last gen models, 08-14. Nothing about these 3rd generation challengers. So I have no clue, never heard of this issue. Definitely get it checked out, sounds dangerous.

It could be related to holding the button down or getting a "double tap" signal for some reason.

I had this happen with my Ram 1500 and the culprit turned out to be the floor mat. It was on top of the throttle enough to confuse the engine controller but not enough to throw a code. Fixed mat, no more issue. Might be worth a look!

I've ruled out solar flare-up and demonic possession so I'll check the mat. I Had some major spinal fusion so getting into the HC looks like Nascar. I may have shoved the mat but they are OEM with the clips? My son is bringing over his code reader this weekend maybe something will show.

My Ram had clips too, but one of the two came loose and it rotated into a position where it was pushing on the bottom of the pedal enough to muck things up. Might not be your thing, but it's an easy thing to check!

No spare time until the weekend but that will be my first item to look at. Even if it's the culprit I'll keep looking. Can't finish early, it takes about 50 minutes to get through a cigar 😁

I had this happen a few times with my 2015 Charger SRT 392. I went to start it up and nothing happened. Then I tried it again and it stumbled like it was out of gas. I tried to start it a couple times and nothing. Let it sit for a minute and tried it again and it started right up. It had a code but I don't remember which one. after a few miles it would go away and everything was fine.

Sometimes the cars can get heat soaked too most notably when your idling a lot in high temps and humidity, pop the hood for a couple minutes then try to fire her up. Had this happen a few times in my hellcat charger. Twice was on car cruising week when everyone is in stop and go traffic and was high heat
