So, there’s my favorite stretch on 81 in PA that I’ll usually get on my cat if traffic sets up nice with no vehicles within range in front of me for 1/2 to 3/4 mile or so. I was at 143 when trooper stopped me. He started screaming at me that he was tired of scraping people off the ground and that I just lost my license! I always try to be safe when I pick my spots to open her up for a bit, but he got his point across. I thought I was going to jail. Instead, the trooper calmed down, gave me back my license a few minutes later and gave me a careless driving ticket and told me he didn’t know why he gave me a break, but to please keep the speed on the track. It made me come to my senses. I love my car, but not worth the high speeds in the wild. I’ll keep it on the track from now on. Just thought I’d share the story. Maybe it can get one or two of fellow cat owners to rein it in a bit. Had my cat since 2015 and have avoided getting stopped for almost 6 years. Be careful guys. I got off lucky.

No excuses for your behavior. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Use better judgement.
Did you read his post? He admitted his mistake and is attempting to make it a teachable moment. He didn't blame the cop or make excuses. Jump down off the high horse there, big shoots.

Agreed ^. Most of us take the risk occasionally or all have taken the risk in the past .

Right? I mean really.....

guess fumanchu always drives the speed limit 😑

and we bought 700+ hp cars why? Oh yeah...that’s right...to take them to the track.

give me a break.

And while I’m on my soapbox....

speed doesn’t kill. Autobahn, at least at one time, had fewest fatalities per 1000 miles driven.

stupid drivers kill. And even more so stupid drivers in “inadequate” cars kill.

Johnny is his 1989 civic, with stickers, and $40 cheap ass tires and worn out brakes trying to be a Hellcat kills.

in Europe, at least in the past, it was a PRIVILEGE to drive, was not cheap, a real test, and you had to keep your car up.

Saying you were in a 65 mph zone,
261.50 speed
10.00 ems
10.00 jcp
75.00 1543
75.00 3362 (26+mph)

Got lucky, could have been a $431.50 citation just for speeding, 6 points, loss of license. He could of cited for wreckless driving as well and taken the car on the spot. Obviously you were respectful to the trooper or you would not have a car.
Lesson learned here. Watch for the police. If you see them while going fast, nail the brakes, troopers love the fear aspect and it shows you were respecting their presence. Always be respectful when stopped. Apologize, you were being a criminal. Pay the hellcat tax and move on. Glad to hear it worked out for you the way it did.

I’m in PA & got a careless ticket in my cat last summer. I was looking at points and a heavy fine. Luckily the cop was nice enough to drop it down to a 3333, as he didn’t witness my erratic behavior first hand. They wanted to give me a 3311 but the fine would have went up. Total was $143 after the dust settled.

In Germany they train drivers, new drivers are limited on engine size etc.... They do not pass on the right, At high speeds say over a hundred, fast car in the left, sees a truck signal to pass, fast car will hit their left blinker to tell slower vehicle they see them and slow so the vehicle can pull out and pass. Then fast vehicle moves on. You do not cruise in the left lane. It is acceptable to flash your lights at a slower vehicle in the left lane if you are going faster. Slower car will move over and let you pass. If you see a faster vehicle coming up on the left, you wait to pull out and let them pass. You will get ticketed for following too close, ticketed for speeding (Limit is the limit, unlimited zones are unlimited zones). They will adjust speed limits based on traffic load to minimize crashes.

The TUV inspections are strict for maintenance etc... Winter tires are required and speed limited to 130 kph (80ish)

If I’ve had a capable car, I’ve driven as fast as a 175 mph and that was in a VW Phateon 3.6l diesel. 5 series BMWs with 2 liter diesel crap out a 130mph. You see a Porsche or big Mercedes coming fast in the left lane, stay the $%&# out of the way until they pass.

Hardest thing to get used to when going over there the first few days is to get used to the closing speeds and braking distances. Slowing from 65mph or from 130 mph is way different in traffic. Pulling out to pass someone takes some getting used to because we’re not used to looking in a mirror and know if the car coming up in the left lane is going 80, 100, 130, 150....

My GErman friend who is a fireman says in the US you can be an a$$hole and drive just fine, in Germany a$$hole drivers kill people so they chose not to be a$$holes.

If we used some of the these practices here, we could enjoy our high horsepower cars more on the roads.

Here.... It is a right to drive slow in the left lane, a right to hold other people up because they don’t need to go faster than us, a right to tailgate, a right to pass on the right, a human right to see a faster car then speed up to cut them off and slow back down....

Nice soapbox... I would love to take the HC to German for some Autobahn runs....

COVID is pretty much over, so we are going to see more and more LEOs come out of hibernation everywhere.
