I'm in the process of trying to remove my stock pulley so I can change the bad bearings in the snout and for the life of me I can not get it to come loose. Best I've been able to do was get the back nut to loosen when trying to break the front one off. I bought the metco tools to do this right with no luck at all. I've tried a 3 foot long breaker bar (just breaks the back bolt loose) and my 3/8 impact gun on the front nut. It goes to 150 foot pounds so I would think that would be enough. I may go get a half inch and try that but am afraid it will strip the nut if it doesn't break loose.

Anyone have any tips or tricks I should try?

Also - I'm assuming this means someone has been in my pulley before as I can't imagine what ever that stuff is would be stock....

P.S. - This socket is a perfect fit and an exact match to the metco tool. It's much cheaper too. Hind sight 20/20 don't think I needed the metco one.

Finally got it off. Had to get a more powerful impact gun. Father in law loaned me his that's rated for 650 foot pounds and it took all it would produce to finally come off.

Isn't it funny how dads always have the better tools? Mine's always like "you should have just called, I have <insert upgraded ACME tool here>." And I'm like, yeah, but then I wouldn't get to keep it in my tool chest. He is quick to give me the stuff he just bought a replacement for though - Chainsaws, small impact wrenches, hammer drills, socket sets, every sort of table/hand saw....

Amen to that. Weird part is I'm the tool collector in the family. I just never thought I would need something stronger than 150 foot pounds. Only reason he had one is because he takes it with him when he takes his RV in his F250. He got a flat one time and had to wait almost 2 hours for help because he couldn't get the lug nuts off on the side of the highway.

Thank you for posting the pic of that socket. NIce to know we can run to the local hardware store and pick that up instead of spending the extra $$$$ for the Metco tool.

Glad you got the pulley off. Post pics of the rest of the repair. I always thought those bearings were irreplaceable once they went bad.

Check out this thread here - Opinion on this SC bearing sound

I posted several pictures there and talked through some of the challenges I faced. If you have a press and are fairly mechanically it is diffidently doable. Most of my problems were just not wanting to mess up a really expensive part so I went pretty hesitant at things. Having help from someone that's done it before helped a lot.

Glad to help with the socket. I bought the Metco one being afraid the one I posted above wouldn't fit and I'd be SOL waiting for the tool to come in the mail with the car apart. If I'm being honest, the tool I posted above seem to fit better than the Metco piece. Best part was it connects directly to your impact gun vs needing to put a socket over it.

Thanks for the link to your other thread. Glad you were able to get it fixed at home. Ease of mind knowing the job was done right, plus you didn’t have the hassle of dealing with the dealership and the warranty company.

im going to listen to my car at idle and make sure it’s not making that noise. My warranty literally espires at the end of this month !!
