I was just reading an article that reminded me that there is a growing consensus amongst auto manufacturers to start getting their customers to pay for things on a monthly subscription. Some of the things mentioned are remote start, heated cooled seats, and even more horsepower/performance. Dodge wasn’t mentioned but if they ever try that, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. What will be next? Commercials during navigation?

I can see it in the future, along with charging/taxing you by the mile.
If we are being charged for using all the vehicle technology, then what are we buying when we purchase a car? It will only get worse, I feel for my 11 month old granddaughter, she is growing up in one really F-upped world...

Toyota tried it with their remote starters recently. Backlash was so swift and fierce that they rescinded it completely.

what I'm always curious about, is that the government makes a lot of money off of gas tax, but if there's this big push for EV, how is the government going to tax that? Are the going to tax you more on electricity bills, or tax you by mile? Some way or another, Uncle Biden is gonna get his.
Illinois when it was passing tax after tax before COVID, introduced a $2,000/yr registration fee for all EV's. "Because they won't be paying the gas tax anymore"
Good old blue state Illinois still trying to **** you if you want to go green.

Same, Oregon has their annual registration for EVs in the $300 range with it becoming less and less the worse your combined MPGs are. So they seem to be flipping it onto the registrations. Seems like a happy medium though because than not everyone is being charged more for electricity when we arent consuming more and itd be way too hard to micromanage who is/isnt charging an EV at home.

Gentlemen, it's all about control.
Strongly disagree. It's about money.

Nobody's twirling their mustache at HQ, gloating that they can turn on and turn off someone's heated seats. They're too busy sleeping in a mattress of cash, on their yacht off-shore of their private island.

If I recall correctly, part of Biden's "Build Back Better" plan included a provision for the "testing" of a per mileage vehicle tax. Whether it was part of Build Back Better or some other provision, the Federal government is looking to tax drivers for how much they drive. The two plans I've seen showed drivers having to provide certified odometer readings and associated tax at tax time, or an annual fee applied at the time of vehicle registration renewal.

^^Taxing by the mile would put many in situations of "do I drive to work, or just live off Welfare"...lots of folks drive 100+ miles a day commuting, and I haven't even brought in trucking and deliveries..you think prices are bad now, factor in per mile FEE that would be added to EVERYTHING!!!

What? Toyota is still charging for all their remote services on my Tundra. If you want remote start, destination assist, WIFI etc. you have to pay for a monthly subscription....last I checked it's $12.99 a month!

I would call the service dept. and ask. Last I saw they backed down from it due to all of the outrage.
Just to be clear, remote start with your fob. I havent heard anything about other remote services.
