If Dodge made these today, modernized, with, say a turbodiesel/hybrid system, they could be getting around 30mpg AND have power on demand for passing, while usually chugging along frugally with the turbodiesel.

It makes me wonder just how they would sell.

INB4 "OMG the EPA would shriek and blubber and murder children in the name of environmentalism or whatever"

I'm talking about giving people what they want, like the Hellcats, instead of continuing to try to stuff things down their throats they don't want, like 4-door Neons, for example.

Attention, retailers of ANYTHING: Try selling people what they want instead of trying to turn them all into an emasculated little consumer drone that just takes whatever you defecate on them and likes it.

You have 50 posts that say the same thing. Give people what they want. That's exactly what the OEM's do. That's why there are millions of SUV's being built and sold. The average person doesn't want a Hellcat. Or a Shelby. Or a V series Cadillac. Or a Corvette. They are niche cars for enthusiasts. A fraction of the over-all market. You keep mentioning the Neon, which has been out of production here since 2005. Seemingly about the same time you lost touch with reality. I truly wonder how you make it through daily life, as you seem to intentionally take the path of most resistance.

A big, loafing, 440 cubic inch turbodiesel that turns roughly 1500RPM, and this thing would be getting 40mpg without a hybrid.

Heck, fully loaded big rigs are getting 5-6mpg.

With hybridization, this could get 50mpg with an ultra-low-RPM turbodiesel.
