The great pulley/belt size thread

39429 Views 70 Replies 41 Participants Last post by  Hellsrocketrd
Hello, Like many of you I often struggle with choosing the correct belt size to go with my pulley setup. I only have a few that I know work, but through the cooperation of people like you I would like to make this the end all be all go to thread to choose your correct belt size for your setup. So if you see an empty slot and you know what belt size works best, feel free to offer up your experience and I will update this thread. Please add a picture of your tensioner and where it falls with your corresponding setup. Napa offers their own brand of replacement belts but I think these might be just rebranded Gates belts. Below is a list of Gates RPM sizes from their website.

Stock 579 belt and Gates 579 belt are different in size by about 1/4-1/2". The Gates is longer.

First of all, thanks for starting a thread like this, it sure would be great to have ONE thread that contains all the belt combinations.

Curious how much the Metco idler and tensioner set, or the Bwoody idler affect these sizes too.

Pretty sure these are correct though:

Metco Stack Balancer

2.85 - K100572HD
2.75 - K100572HD

3.10 is probably the same as 3.35.

My current setup includes:

Gates K100582RPM.

2.65” upper pulley (ZPE Griptec/Superchargers Online)
ATI 10% Super Damper Balancer
Metco Billet Pulley replacement kit (HCKIT).

This information was provided to me and to the Gates rep on the board by SGoyal who currently runs same setup.
** the tensioner is pretty much dead on in the middle. Pictures to follow soon.

More drama for the mix.....

Stock 579 belt and Gates 579 belt are different in size by about 1/4-1/2". The Gates is longer.

I run a 2.5 upper with a stock lower....BUT.....I have the increased sized metco tensioner pulley, and idler pulley. I also use the Bwoody 3.5" Idler for belt wrap. The stock belt or gates 579 stock sized belt will work perfect for this setup. By taking off my top Bwoody idler. The stock size belt also fits perfect if I want to go back to my 2.85" ring to run 93 octane.
Bump for more setup info.

All other info has been assimilated....
very helpful thread!
Thank you. That is my intent. However, it seems to have stalled a bit. I has hoping to have more slots filled in by now.
I heard having an ATI lower and 3.10 upper will require a metco tensioner pulley and idler kit on a 594 HD belt since they are bigger in diameter.
My .02 on this thread

Thanks for the tip! I'd like to stick to the facts in this thread though. I'm only adding information from people that have had first hand experience.

Update I have the 594HD belt with just the metco tensioner pulley with he 3.10/ATI combo as per Sumit Goyal. It works great.
Really good thread! Thanks for all the input.
I have the ATI and 3.1 upper with the 594HD belt. Not sure if it has metco tensioner but I do not think it does.
I’d like to jump in on this. I have the Litens 2.72 with an ATI 10%. I’m using the Gates K100594HD since the Litens provided Bando belt is for a stock crank pulley.

Litens actually recommendations NOT using a Gates green because of NVH found during testing. However, I see the new Redeye’s are coming with the green belts from the factory.

I emailed a little with Paul Georges on the proper Bando Belts which he gave the size (10pk1515) but no one seems to have them or able to get them yet. I then spoke with Josh at HHP and they are trying to get their hands on some and work with Bando on this.

Here is a pic of my tensioner, which I feel is a bit on the loose side. During tuning we didn’t see any slip though. I’ll have to wait a few months to actually get some miles on it and see what happens.

One more for the mix: since Forced Induction has come out with the spacer plates / 10mm thicker intake gasket, installation of those units (see info here: https://www.hellcat.org/threads/intake-spacers-redux-and-follow-up.225565/ ) mean the possibility of requiring a slightly longer belt. The units begin shipping today, so as they are installed with particular pulley setups, we can add belt info to the mix.

Excellent thread idea, thanks!

I ordered that same 594 belt for my setup that I will be installing in the next week or two - 2.65 upper, IW 9% lower, Tim Barth adjustable idler setup. I was concerned that it might not be tight enough but if it is working for you I'm thinking I should be ok with the adjustable idler. I'll keep researching to see what others are running to make sure I don't need to order something else.
Great thread this should be pinned at the top!

I have been searching for weeks about this setup. I currently have the same setup but haven't put it on yet. I don't know what belt I need. So should I go with the Gates 594 belt or see if I can find that dayco belt??

As I mentioned, I’m using it for now. I only have 150 miles on since tuning and I haven’t gotten into boost much since I’m on a 500 miles clutch break in.

With that being said, I don’t see in signs of belt dust or anything as of yet but time will tell when I can actually put it through it’s paces. The performance shop I had my work done at said to stay away from Dayco belts because they don’t grip as well with their shallower ribs based on their experiences.

I will continue to run the Gates until an alternative from Bando becomes available.
Anyone know what size to run with a 10% lower and stock upper?
