How do I check what kind of thermostat is installed on a used car without opening everything up?

can I just run hot and see if it returns below 180 or just under 200? Or is that not the best way?

Drive normally in town and then the highway and report the digital temps from the Performance Page...

Warm vehicle to operating temps and drive freeway speeds very light load with reasonable outside temps. The coolant temp should settle close to thermostat temp after a few minutes of driving. If Track mode turns the fans on high, this will also help you testing.

Driving around town it rises to 215 under load and hovers at 203 or so in slow traffic.
