I have a 2020 Challenger anniversary edition Scat Pack in perfect condition. Trying to decide if I should sell privately or use as trade in when my jailbreak comes in. Any thoughts? Price if sold privately?
I work in finance.
Trade in is the best option because of tax credit transfer and instant updated ledger.// less transaction and no time consuming.

Multiply your trade in price times whatever sales tax is and then compare it to what you could get privately.

As far as I could tell, that was the only benefit. In my case I was offered 4k at various dealers for trade in. That would only have been 4260 in total value

On the other side, I was able to sell for 8k privately. No brainer. More effort and time but just look at the delta between private sale and actual trade in offers.

Very true , Tax does vary per State. you got a point there.
But if It was me, I would still go with trade-in //my time is very valuable and non-negotiable
Agree 100%. Unless we are looking at a significant price difference... I would go the trade route every time. I hate messing around trying to sell anything.

My state allows you to use bill of sale on private sale toward sales tax of new car when you register car as long as within 60 days. Usually get between $5-10k($60k price range) more selling privately. Have to be willing to deal with tire kickers and taking a month or two usually to sell it. Sometimes worth it sometimes it isn't.

Sweet, which state? Trade in with these cars can save a 5-7k tax bill in IL.

C’mon, if you can afford those two, you can handle one more ;)
Haha. The problem is with the my suburban, the wife's Grand Wagnoneer and the 2 new ones, we will have 4. Wife said more than 4 cars, I have to buy a bigger house with a bigger garage. I tried saying we could sell hers, she didn't like that. Lol

If you sell to a private buyer in AZ, they don’t pay sales tax on that transaction at all! Was very happy to learn that when I bought my first (used) Hellcat from a private seller my first year in AZ.

So, I’d give it a shot privately and see how it goes. Finding a local buyer in AZ should be easy enough since you can drive that car all year there, plus it’ll save them quite a bit not paying sales tax on a $60k+ car.

A private sale of the Scat Pack is almost certainly going to draw every pimple faced teenager with the ink not even dry on his driver's license to "test drive" the car.

With my Scat Packs (2) and my Hellcat (1) I just traded them in when time to get another car. Dealer gave me a pretty good trade in allowance. Moved the plate and its registration tag from the traded in car to the new car. Got a break on sales tax owed on the new car. When I traded in the 2018 Hellcat for the 2020 Scat Pack I got the Scat Pack, owned $0 in sales tax and got $3K check from the dealer.
