Why not? If you are happy with the results. Makes no difference if they are the owners of the shop.
Some people don't like to tip and won't in this case either. Others will find a way to have an excuse not to tip. It's a very fine line since we can't possibly know the etiquette of everything. That's why the OP asked. I'm a better tipper than my wife, which doesn't make her a bad person, just cheap lol. But she will tip the person who hands her a pizza for pick up, which I do not. Go figure! I tip the guy who details my car because he's very professional and does a great job. In this case I would tip.

If you want someone to remember you, give them a tip. In the future you may just want to stop and ask some questions. If you gave him a cold 12 pack of good stuff one Friday afternoon, he might be more receptive to a friendly conversation. My local body guy likes Coors Light (yuk) but it makes him happy and 30-packs are $19.99 on sale!

Couple months (Oct? Nov?) after getting my '20 I was driving down my street and an acorn dropped on the hood and made a very obvious dent! The local PDR got 98% of it out, and my local body guy buffed it and it is completely gone! These guys are true artists and deserve appreciation!

I don't have a problem tipping but the amount is always based on the service. Outstanding jobs, great service and personality warrants a nice reward. It seems like shitty service is dominant lately.

I just had this done to. Had about a dozen small ones in the car when I bought it and then got this one below 2 weeks ago. $500 and the guy fit me into the hail repair schedule right away (orher shops were pushing me to October) and even buffed out some scuffs in the paint.

Not the cheapest buy guy did a phenomenal job. Never know anything was wrong and was great to work with as I asked a lot of questions and he showed me how they do it. I tipped him $50. Probably not necessary but in this day and age of piss poor workers I wanted to reward someone doing good work. And being a fellow car guy (probably how my car got to cut the line) I wanted to show my appreciation.

The ding that was hardest for them and annoyed me most. Not a great picture but it was deep and needed some buffing.
