Anyone know specifics
My torque reserve will activate around 1500rpm at will
Sometimes it will sometimes it won’t
Just want specifics on controlling it
Most of the time I’m under 1500 launching
Anyone have experience

Hey Jerome.
As you know my SS is the same way.
I've been recently told(by a guy on the other site) that when it does this it appears to be related to what the launch control setting is adjusted to. His fix is to just run the launch control up to 2000 and forget about it. I don't know from personal experience yet if this is a fix for the issue but it makes about as much sense as any other thought I've had.

I have only foot launched so far and am planning on using launch control this Wed at my local T&T. I am going to start at 1500 and go up from there. I installed my DIRS and front brace last night to hopefully help to not grenade my diff and while i had it up in the air put on Demon skinnys up front. I should have my 305x45x17 ET street R's coming in today. So i should have better odds of hooking this week vs the 18 NT05r's. Fingers crossed for a low 10.

Also how do you know when your torque reserve is active? Boost pressure higher than usual? Is there an indicator on the perf pages like the power chiller?

What we're referring to is a random thing that happens when foot braking. You're stalling it to whatever your desired rpm is and suddenly it begins to do the gurgling thing they do when the launch control is activated. You will 100% know it when(hopefully if) it happens!
Also, it's been my experience that launch control is no quicker than proper foot braking AND sometimes will just not work.
I hope your tires come in and I hope you have a great time running the car!

It does produce that unique “funky” sounding idle when active too.

I have not had that happen yet. Knock on wood. I tried using the launch control on my SCAT off and on and had the same conclusion. I was faster and more consistent with the old foot. Same with the line lock. It's just less complicated to do it the same way i have for 30 years.

From my own testing (I have a Durango Hellcat here not super stock so maybe this isn’t the same) you have to have your foot down hard on the brake and bring up the rpm to around 1,000 for torque reserve to trigger. If the rpms come up too quick it won’t trigger… if you raise the rpm too quick you can hold it at the rpm for a few seconds though and it will still activate. Watching on the boost gauge you can see the supercharger bypass valve close (it will go from vacuum to 0psi when TR activates at low RPM) then as your RPM increases you will see boost on the gauge (I can only get 3psi as I think the limit is 3.9 PSI I read).

I made a crappy video but it should give you an idea…. (I need to make a better video someday for this).

Mine always comes on at about 1200 RPM's... Also does any one use launch control at the strip?
I tried but just had a bad experience using it (including the guy next to me taking a century to stage causing it to timeout and leave me sitting like an idiot). Might have been all driving error but my best results have been just using torque reserve.

What track are you running at Weds?

National Trail has a Wed test and tune this week. I was going to do their King of the Street race Friday but it was rained out.

So I went out in the middle of the corn today and messed around with the Torque Reserve. In track mode launch control rpm default at 1500RPM, holding brakes slowly raising the rpm and yea around 1500RPM... Blub Blub Blub... Sounds like a cow mumbling haha... Like mentioned above, once it starts the boost goes to 0 then as i press more gas 1psi, more gas 2psi, more then 3psi, after that my rear wheels started breaking traction a little. So then i let off brakes and pushed mid throttle and laid down some nice rubber a few hundred feet :)

Tried it a few times with same results. I didnt notice any of this on the track but i was more focused on all the other things and its louder etc with other cars so I assume the same happened? Or maybe I launched less than 1500? A lot of times i dont look and just feel the car out when racing. I imagine on a good prepped track if you can get it to hook coming off the line at 2k+ starting with 3.9psi would be a wheel raising spicy ride.

I should have tried moving the LC from 1500 up to 2000 to see if the foot brake blub blub moves up too?

Next time in the corn...

Sounds like you got a feel for it. My brakes can’t hold anything more than 2,000ish rpm so I find my best launches are around 1800 (a bit easier with AWD of course). Look forward to seeing how your track day goes.

Yea i need to get my gopro mount sorted so I can replay and see what just happened vs me trying to pay attention to all the gauges and not wrap around a tree/going mudding in a corn field.

Please do…. I’m going to try to record something more verbose regarding torque reserve. I don’t see much information about it anywhere and I’m sure I don’t know everything about the system yet so I would be curious to see how yours behaves. 🍻

Played around with my SS today to try and see if torque reserve would work as I didn’t even know about it till seeing this thread.I figured out launch control doesn’t need to be activated. I did figure out you really have to hold brake down really hard to get it to activate. It would easily build 5 psi of boost at 1500rpm. Gonna try it next time at track. If track prep is good and the 315/50/17 ET street R’s hook 60ft should be damn good.

Please post how you do at the track with it.
