Im at a bit of a loss. Tonight I finally have put my new Charger HC into track mode to do a WOT pull from about a 20 roll. As expected, it spun bad and almost instantly the TC came in and choked the car to nothing power. Ok that was weird. I thought track mode (all options track), was going to allow quite a bit of spinning but whatever.

But then from a 50ish roll, I tried again. This time no spin but the shifts - OH MY GOD. They are not like I would have thought. Feels like a manual trans being powershifted, not a super fast A8 hitting gears. It violently lets off the power, hits incredibly hard on the shift then hits back on the gas. Like there is a clutch press in the middle of the shift.

Now I had an a8 challenger SCAT before and it never felt like that. The shifts were fast and instant. In the hellcat in trackmode, they feel delayed with a hesitation in the middle, then absolute violence when it hits back on the gas. Im not sure if this is right. This is all the car shifting, no manual mode or paddles involved.

So is there something wrong with mine or is this normal? This is my first hellcat. The shifting seems fast in street mode and so-so in sport mode but in track the car seems to be hitting way too hard, but with this hesitation in the middle of the shift.

What are your opinions?

Im having the same issue in track mode. It feels like riding a wild bucking bull!! It performs weird not smooth at all. I use custom mode now trans(sport) traction(sport) suspension(street) much smoother and still feels fast. Track mode just seems violent on the streets
It’s weird right. Just went out again to test some. Trans in track is just pure violence at WOT. Leave every thing else in track but put trans in sport and it shifts smooth and fast. Car feels faster too honestly without the violent bucking on and off the gas during shifts. So strange. Sport really feels best/fastest. Anyone else notice this?

Youre prob experiencing the dreaded hiccup that these cars now have. Annoying.

Sounds like you got an A8 that’s capable of destroying anything after the output shaft

At wide open throttle? I feel a small hiccup at very small part throttle when cruising but it’s slight. Is that what you mean?
WOT. Apparently it’s built into the software. Here is a post on the other forum from DRAGRCR who races and has experienced it with a RE and a SS. I remember him posting quite a bit about how he was trying to figure it out. There is now supposed to be a TSB to help and when I posted wondering why he never tried fixing it with a reflash this was his response. I havent seen any posts from anyone who has done the reflash yet so I dont know if it actually helps.

This^

Try fueling up at a different station.
That’s all I’m saying..I no longer use BP because of that very reason, shell 93 seems to be ok but at any given time there’s always a few gallons of GT 260 sloshing around back there picking up the slack..but can you imagine if everyone had an octane tester at the pump?! It could get ugly

Traction needs to be in Sport mode to allow rear wheel spin without cutting power. Traction in Track will cut power.

Traction in Sport mode allows for burnouts at the drag strip.

Wow I read somewhere that dodge bumped the power +10HP by increasing the shift point for the 2020+ models. Now thinking back... the car does hiccup under WOT. I thought maybe because I bounced off the rev limiter while breaking traction the TC was limiting the power for a quick second.

Strange part is my TC is always set on “sport” and if you’re familiar with this platform.. you could roast the tires all the way to 5th gear no hesitation with TC set to “sport”

I love Track mode on the street. Very rarely if ever am I at WOT on the street so the firm crisp shifts along with keeping the revs in the power is just awesome.

did some more testing today. Track trans setting is very “broken” feeling. There is a big lurch between shifts at wide open throttle. And trans in street or sport it’s not there at all. Completely fast shifts that hit hard but don’t lurch the car forward like in track mode. I’m baffled why it would do this. For what purpose if this is expected?? It doesn’t feel like a faster shift by any means. I put the car in custom and everything track but the trans and that seemed to be the fastest/smoothest. I have tried to watch videos and read other pages and I’m not seeing others post about this. Is this a 2020/2021 or maybe even a 2021 revision to the track trans mode? This can’t be right. Luckily it’s not consistent across street and sport. I’d surely bring it in if it did this in all modes. The shifting in track reminds me of an older auto camaro with a shift kit. Super hard hits between gears.

wouldn't a clutch that will contain the torque alleviate this. I had prior to new clutch. Now, it accepts 100% of torque (triple disc clutch). I run 1100 HP on 93 octane (FORZA 4R plus) Ran no issues except too much hp for the tires :) I am NOT a mechanic so just my personal experience. Could be way off?

I’m talking about the a8 auto trans.
