So this started dangling out from under the dash last week. Finally cut the ziptie and looked closer. It's made by Phillips Connect and appears to be a fleet monitoring device. Im hoping this is just something the dealership puts on their cars to recover lot thefts that they forgot to remove. I know it isnt bank/finance related bc I went through my credit union and they said they dont do that.

Just making sure this isnt related to some tech system im unaware of before removing the device. 2021 redeye order. What do y'all think?

Tracking device of some sort, looks like the label has a IMEI number on it for the cell access. Maybe from somewhere along the line it was placed and forgotten, I’d pull it out.

could’ve been planted too for nefarious purposes, wouldn’t put it past anyone nowadays.

My first thought went to nefarious. It appeared a few weeks after i got my PPF installed and my first thought was great someone there is waiting for an opportune time to hunt and steal my car. 🤦‍♂️. Gonna reach out to the dealer today and get their input. Thanks! It's coming off now.

Dodge had them installed in the rams, and advertised it as a theft recovery system. Evts and you had to call or input your vin and personal info, I took mine out of my new truck and put it in my old 01 ram 2500 and registered it, it’s a simple 2 or 3 wire hook up, you have the option of buying tracking and speed monitoring and parking locator etc, sure seem ok but with a hefty price for a subscription lol

Some dealerships will install them in order to repo cars. I went to a dealer in Las Vegas that used them for theft recovery and also geofencing. The gate off the lot wouldn’t open unless the vehicle has one. Then it opened back up when you arrived.

If you suspect nefarious purposes and you LOVE countermeasures, put it on any source of 12V power that moves, preferably a vehicle destined for some far-off land, or just put on a battery and ship it to Timbuktu.

Even if Dodge somehow did things with Rams, after about 10 Rams (all bought new), I've never seen anything like that installed.

Well i finally got a hold of a manager at my dealership. It was installed by them, and it's apparently an optional dealer item that i was never suppose to get. Its a line item called ELO and i declined it. He said they use it on all their high end cars while its at the dealer to monitor usage. I guess they either assumed i was adding it or they forgot. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Either way, just happy it wasnt a shady thing happening and now i have a free gps tracker if i want to activate it. 😂.
