I’ve had my 2016 Charger Hellcat since new. Have 18000 miles on and it’s still the best car I’ve ever driven and absolutely love it. My wife actually recommended I look into the Durango Hellcat sine we now have 5 kids (only had 2 when I picked up the Charger)

What do folks think about the change and the cost associated. I own the Charger outright. Dealer is willing to give me $52k on trade in, and I have found a Durango HC for below MSRP, but I’ll still be out of pocket ~$40k.

Still get to drag race once a month and actually make the wife happier.

Seems like a no brainer, if you keep the HC, and have to pick up a family hauler worth anything you'll be in for 40K anyway only difference you'll have 2 cars vs. 1 ;)

I am right there as well! I need something to tow a boat and don’t want a boring truck. Might as well trade in my Jeep and get the Durango and haul everyone and be able to tow as well. I’d consider the TRX but it’s almost 5mpg less reported by people I know that own them.

Just before you go to far. The durango seats 6 so your still one seat short for your family. We love our RT. For me I like having the HC challenger for fun and the Durango for family. HC Durango is awesome but I think you should keep your car and spend the money on something the whole family can fit in.

No real reason not to for your purpose. I will tell you have owned 3 Hellcats now, Challenger, Charger, and Durango. The Durango Hellcat is probably the quickest in stock form up to 80mph due to the AWD, however because it is much heavier than the Challenger and Charger, it feels slower from a roll without a doubt.

Supposedly the Durango can seat 7, but I don't believe its in the Hellcat form...

That's correct but I don't think you can get the middle bench in SRT or HC versions. At least that is what I was told when looking at trading up to a SRT.

Options are 5 passenger or 6 passenger seating only for the Durango SRTs. Standard is 6 with captains chairs in the middle row. A zero cost option is the Lightweight Performance Package which replaces the 2nd row captains chairs with a 60/40 bench seat but deletes the third row altogether. You theoretically could get to 7 if you really wanted to as some have been looking to do just that for larger family reasons but would require swapping the captains chairs for the bench seat after the fact. Only downside is you can only get the Lightweight Performance Package with the standard black interior. You cannot get it if you upgrade to the Demonic Red Laguna leather.

2nd row captains chairs with optional 2nd row console

2nd row Lightweight Performance Package bench seat with optional red seat belts (note you lose the SRT/SRT Hellcat embroidery in the seat backs)

Ha! These are all great comments. Has anyone done the conversion to add in that light weight bench after the fact. The one I’ve locked down is captains chairs in the standard black alcantera seats. I’d be down to do the mod for the 2nd row bench.

Curious as well for him how accessible are the rear seats after the conversion. Don’t want to have to hurdle the seats to enter.

Great point. We are really looking at doing this if I have to pick up all the kids if my wife is stuck at work. She has an Expedition that seats 7.

The DDHC that I’m looking at has the center console between the 2nd row, so I’m hoping that isn’t too much of an obstacle either.

I highly suggest looking at other ways to sell you car before selling it to a dealership. Vroom is probably the most aggressive pricing wise right now. Its super quick to request a price from them and others like kelley blue book, carvana, and autonation. Vroom beat them all by a big margin. It doesn't take long to request quotes from any of those so I suggest doing them all and see who will pay you the most.

totally agree you need to shop all channels - while I have a lowly 2012 charger SE I'm replacing with my HC, dealers have offered 6k, carmax 10k, carvana 12k. and for me, vroom 6k so they were terrible on my model and region.
