Is anybody unpinned with the 2.85 pulley swap. I am trying to see if I need to buy a pinning kit for the install. Also am I able to pin it later after I pulley swap. I have a 2016 hellcat charger in need of advice here. Haven’t really found anything on 2.85 pulley swap people spinning.

A 2016, probably so, or at a minimum get the updated Demon/2018 and newer crank bolt that is supposed to help eliminate any crank pulley slippage.

When I called reputable Shop here, he mention it depends on the pulley I’m using he said with the Litens it’s not required. I also seen where someone said HHP states it’s not necessary with 2.85 but now they changed to say buy our pin kit so I’m confused.

If you stick with a clutched upper pulley, and just swap to the upgraded bolt and torque specs, I think you'll be fine. I believe the non clutched pulley's are what causes most of the issues with the crank not being pinned, due to the increased hard hit spinning the blower as opposed to the soft hit with the clutched pulley. On top of that, I believe the non clutched pulley may also cause snout bearing life issues as well due to the same reason. That's just my take and how I would proceed with a pulley swap.

I would not swap pullies at all on these cars without pinning the crank. As Spoolin stated, it was most prominent with cars that had upgraded non-clutched pullies, but there have been reports of spun crank pullies even on stock vehicles. Its good peace of mind.

Pin it for sure. It's not hard to do. Worst part is getting the radiator fan out and putting it back in. It's worth doing for being so simple and cheap compared to what would happen if it spun. I upgraded the damper bolt too. Use a big piece of cardboard to cover the radiator and get a little right angle drill motor.

I know you already made your decision, but just adding further encouragement. These engines/cars are expensive anyway. For what some of these things cost to do, it's a no-brainer to me.

To be honest, the crank on these cars should have been keyed or pinned from the factory. Its nuts that they rely on just a bolt.

Stock cars spun the lower, just pin it to be safe.
This is honestly a $80 mod that can only help you.
If you are looking to cut corners, screw the pulley and just shoot nitrous, 1, 2 3 hundred shot and the $80 part will not matter lol

Where is this part at for $80 I only seen hundred or little over?
They usually go for $99 but if you're worried about a $20 difference for a crank pin kit then stop modding your car, if you go the cheap route now you will spend much more down the road when you have a catastrophic failure over a few bucks.

Never said or complained about being cheaper. Simply asked where he seen that. If I can buy same part 10 or 20 dollars cheaper why not that’s common sense

cool will do will report back if I need help
I’ve heard about crank pulleys slipping when there is to much boost. I did mine myself and you just have to make sure that you mark the bit before you start so you go deep enough, but not to deep. When you get ready to torque the crank bolt mark the bolt and crank before you add the 150 degrees after you hit the torque number 148 ft lbs. (Kit instructions will give you the numbers, I’m going off memory that may be off a little), Lubricant on the bit helps obviously. Now you know that you will never have to worry. And a new crank bolt which comes with the kit. These are designed to stretch and not a great idea to use after it’s removed because you won’t have a true reading on the torque.

You may already know these things. I just like to share my knowledge/experience with othersto save someone else trouble if I can.

Hope it works out for you either way.
