Last month I took delivery of my new Redeye and I had this Viper alarm system installed: Viper 5706V LCD 2-Way Security + Remote Start System. Today I discovered that my car comes with the "Deluxe Vehicle Security System" and "Sentry Key Immobilizer." Here is an excerpt from the owner's manual:
"The Deluxe Vehicle Security system monitors the doors, hood latch, and trunk for unauthorized entry and the ignition switch for unauthorized operation. The system also includes a dual function intrusion sensor and vehicle tilt sensor. The intrusion sensor monitors the vehicle interior for motion. The vehicle tilt sensor monitors the vehicle for any tilting actions (tow away, tire removal, ferry transport, etc.)."
"The Sentry Key Immobilizer system prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. The system does not need to be armed or activated. Operation is automatic, regardless of whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked.
The system uses a key fob, keyless push button ignition and a Radio Frequency (RF) receiver to prevent unauthorized vehicle operation. Therefore, only key fobs that are programmed to the vehicle can be used to start and operate the vehicle. The system cannot reprogram a key fob obtained from another vehicle.
The Sentry Key Immobilizer system is not compatible with some aftermarket Remote Start systems. Use of these systems may result in vehicle starting problems and loss of security protection."
So basically, both alarm systems have mostly the same features. My Viper alarm doesn't have the proximity sensor, but it can be added though. The Viper GPS tracking has a backup battery. Not sure if Dodge added a backup battery for the Uconnect GPS tracking system. I got the Viper alarm because I read so many posts about how terrible the factory alarm system is. Looks like Dodge really improved the security posture for '21 and '22 models.
The Viper alarm subscription is cheaper than SiriusXM Guardian, but it seems pointless to have two nearly identical alarm systems installed. I wonder if it will cause any issues. Seems like I should have just gone with the Viper GPS tracking instead of the security and remote start package.
