So I have a mostly stock 2020 HC, A8. I am guessing it will run in the 11.1 -11.4 range with drag radials.
I live in Tallahassee Fl.
Just went to the Gainsville track website. Would like to run there this fall just to see what it will do.
Anything running faster than 11.49 must have a roll cage!
Any trunk mounted batteries must have a external cut off switch!
And a few other things.
Really?!?
What happened to just taking your stock car out to the track to have some fun?
Haven't been on a drag strip in about 15 years, I guess times have changed.
Are they all like this?
Do I really need a cage to run my stock HC? And I am certainly not mounting a cut off switch on the back of my car.
Looks like I will not be racing.
Advice please.
Thank you for your time,
Varooom

NHRA changed the rules several years ago to allow newer cars to run as quick as 10.00 and up to 135 mph without the added safety equipment. I think it included 2008 and newer vehicles that have all of the OEM safety equipment such as air bags, abs, etc.

For a few years after that rule change, you couldn't modify your car at all and some tracks even counted drag radials as a modification. NHRA then revised the rules to allow some modifications although I don't know the exact wording of the rules.

You should be just fine taking your Hellcat to the track although some track owners may want to enforce their own rules.

Good luck and I hope you break into the 10's.

Run it til they flag you. THEN you will need the extra safety items.

Gainesville wont mess with you. I have run a 10.8 with my charger and my friend with his redeye has run a 10.2 If you do go do a sat when its drag radials and slicks tnt. They dont prep worth a crap on the regular tnt.

Those are the NHRA rules for anything built before 2008.
2008 and newer can go 10.0 or 135mph before rules get applied. Although a helmet will be required likely. So be prepared. Remember a motorcycle helmet may not be allowed.

I run my redeye @ Bandimere in CO and am only required to have a current SNELL rated helmet. DOT helmets are not always SNELL approved... anything faster than 10.0 and a roll cage is then needed. it's hard to get the stock redeye in to the 10's here.

Yes and motorcycle helmets are not Snell rated. Or at least not all are. I had friends told they can't run because of lack of Snell rating.

And it's not just any Snell rating. It must be a current Snell rating. I've been reminded at the track when my helmet is about to expire.

I know nothing but I went to my first drag at New England Dragway for Street Night this past Wed (15 mi away) and there was a 19-20 Challenger REWB with NT05 315/20’s and his best was in the 11’s. I posted this just as a reference. Are you racing the 392?

With practice, and drag radials, plus cool and dry air you should be in the high 10's.

Get your own timing set you can buy, stretch it out, all 1320 feet of it, and run on a nice, grippy, flat, road.
Why do people feel the need to involve others in everything?
Heck, with a few mirrors and some flashlights, you could do it yourself using only a camera phone.
Measure out your 1/4 mile. Place one flashlight on start line, facing across track, angle self-standing mirror so it reflets back at camera.
Place second mirror and flashlight at other end of track, facing reflected beam toward camera. You could use a laser, too, but it would require nothing shaking.
Start camera on phone then go to your car and do your run. Come back, and your video will show the seconds of the launch and finish. You'll have to do math.
If you use a remote-controlled camcorder, you will have more precision.

Also:

A drone hovering overhead can capture the whole run, also.

Shoot, some friends with stopwatches can do it. Just a camera on the dash can record when you leave, then pass a marker down the track. You can have pre-set markers all over, and not have anything to go back and reclaim. Heck, many roads are 1/4 mile apart.

One could use a draft to see the times.
Another is the TRC app. I use it mainly for weather but it has GPS based timers as well as calculators and gives the altitude and da for your location.

Can’t someone write an app using GPS and mirror display so you put the phone/tablet on the dash and use it as a HUD?
You just do that in your phone settings. I would suggest putting some mirror tint on that small area of your windshield, some tacky surface on your dash, and then your phone settings can flip the display for you.

Done.

PS leave the mirror tint easy to pull off, somehow, and you will thank yourself later.
