I’d like to hear experiences and more importantly see good pictures of any seams, any areas that the PPF didn’t go to the “endpoint” leaving exposed paint, etc. Also any tips or tricks your installer may have shared with you.

Have the car in my sig now (22 Charger is on order) and the PPF experience did not go well. Just did the front bumper, lower splitter, and splitter guard. Wanted the flares done but he said it would require 2 pieces. Is this true?

Right off the bat I didn’t like how the PPF didn’t cover every inch of the painted surface. It would fall maybe 1/4 inch from say running all the way to upper and lower grill sections. Now he said this was a kit from Xpel which really shocked me they couldn’t tolerances tighter than that.

Then after about a month it started peeling so I made the decision to have it removed.

Now I’m gun shy. What have been your experiences? I want to have it done for sure but need to be sold.

Sounds like a bad install to me.

I do this for a living and did a full body on my 21 Charger Hellcat Widebody. All edges are wrapped where possible and all badges removed and reinstalled. Prep and skill are key for a great install.

Whoever did mine was pretty tight, wrap went all the way to the edge of an angle change with about 1/8" clearance. No issues with peeling. I don't know about the other products but I did confirm it is expel but can't confirm installer, probably done in Houston where previous owner purchased.

Thanks for the reply. What film do you use?

How many pieces did you break the front up into and what about the flares?

I use Suntek Ultra PPF.

On some cars certain panels need to be segmented due to the limits of the film, PPF is urethane and cannot go into sharp recesses like vinyl can. I always make sure my joints are touching with no gaps for a cleaner install, it's more time consuming but worth the effort.

Here's a couple of screenshots from the cutting database.

That was awesome of you to post! Thank you very much for taking the time to do so.

Can you please tell me do the pieces for the fender flares have to be 2 pieces?

Now if I could just some input on rock guards and side skirts.

My pleasure.

The pieces for the fender flares have to be separate because the PPF cannot hold an inside corner that is that aggressive and the film will definitely fail in that area.

A quality installer will not allow bubbling and peeling. Mine says bring it back, no questions if that happens. I've had ppf done with them twice now and neither job had those issues. Also, at most body seams they fold the ppf into it so no visible edge of the film. Where body seams form corners a 45deg cut is made in the film so just the tip of the body corner is exposed. This is so they can cleanly fold the film down into the seams without wrinkling at the tip. No application is perfect, and of course there are a couple pinpoint sized bubbles due to a spec of something under the film. Much too small for me to worry about though. Just keep in mind a quality installer costs. I had my Challenger WB completely covered, everything except the windows and black plastic bits... $7000. Oh, that reminds me, you mentioned your installer applied it to the splitter? That's a red flag. The film will not stick to surfaces that are not glossy smooth (ie: painted body panels).

On the challenger he redid it once and when it did the same thing “we” decided to remove it.

Splitter was painted to match the car.
