Hey guys, my (new to me) hellcat with 5000 miles is making some weird "metal clinging" noise from the front on a cold start. I noticed this at the dealership and they told me not worry much about it.

What do you guys think, is this normal or should I get it checked out?

Not sure what you’re hearing but, from the video, it sounds normal to me. Maybe it’s not captured well in the video or I just can’t hear it on my phone.

I guess it could just be me being picky. When I bring the camera near the tire you can hear "ticking" coming from the engine. The noise is audible if you use headphones.

It might be something but I agree it’s nothing to worry about. I was under my 2016 with it running the other day checking for any fluids leaks and what not (had just done a bunch of maintenance) and mine sounded a lot like what I’m hearing in the video.

Could be an exhaust leak though. Those can make a ticking sound, then when the metals are warm, the leak seals. Still no big deal though.

I’m sure others will chime in.

Those are the fuel injectors pulsing. They make that sound at low duty cycles and are more audible when there is less ambient background noise at idle. You can also hear the cylinders cackling into those factory shorty headers!

Believe you already had this "checked out" and the dealer told you not to worry about it.

Doesn't sound abnormal to me. The Hellcat engine is going to make some noise from all the reciprocating bits.

I note you state the car has 5000 miles. If the oil has that many miles the oil can account for some noise. My experience with my cars including my Hellcat is nothing quiets an engine like fresh oil and I'm not talking about replacing old and hot oil with fresh cold oil and making the noise comparison but replacing old hot oil with fresh oil then bringing the fresh oil up to temperature -- if the oil change is done hot and it should be it takes really very little time for the fresh oil to get up to temperature -- and making the noise comparison.

When you change the oil that gives you a chance to look over the engine from below. At this time you can check the water pump for any leak sign. And check the serpentine belt for any signs of degradation. Also check the edges of the belt. They should be "dull". If there is a sharp edge that's a sign the belt is not tracking true and this can be due to -- my experience with another car -- to a worn out water pump (worn out at 172K miles though not 5K miles but a water pump can fail at any mileage). But it can also be -- again my experience with yet another car -- a bad idler roller bearing or even a tensioner roller bearing.
