Some stipulations are:
It will be a fun car, not a daily. So no econobox. ;)
No MOPAR
LHD only
No Miata/Fiata
No Mustang
RWD or AWD only
No Vettes
Must be a car that is road worthy and can pass inspection (If not eligible for antique plates) the day you buy it.
Must be a car for pavement. No Jeep, truck, etc
1965 or newer
No rust bucket projects, rollers, etc. (Patina is fine. Just no junk)

What would YOU buy?

Need a back seat? If not I'm leaning towards a C5 with money for some mods.

If you only need one seat and can drive (willing to learn) and don't live in a traffic hell location..... Motorcycle. Cruiser or sport depending on personality but I really miss riding. Just to dangerous where I live now.

C5….maybe a C4….4thGen SS or WS6
A higher mile ZR1 or mid milage LT4 can still be had at $20k. I love my C4 but never bring them up in these types of threads as it's only the rare breed that loves them these days.

Forgot about the LS camaro and firebird. LOT of bang for the buck with them too.

There's a lot of restrictions there... no FWD, no vettes, etc.

Why not a Miata? For under 20K you can get a cheap NA/NB and have enough left for an LS swap making for a wicked fun time. Even with the stock 1.6 or 1.8, they're a blast to drive... Some may say they're a hairdressers or a chick car, but anyone that has driven one can attest that they are a hoot.

Ok then, I'm picking up an ex police car Caprice PPV. All the fun of the SS/G8 at a fraction of the cost. It's got an LS so it's practically bulletproof and parts are a dime a dozen. Disable the cylinder deactivation, turbo it and beat the living snot out of it until you grenade the motor. When you do, go to the junkyard, grab another motor and start again.

While not impossible, I would try to find a well taken care of 01 or 02 WS6 w/ a 6-speed and t-tops. As long as it's taken care of, you will never lose money.

2nd gen. Lightnings are fun, but I wouldn't buy anything other than an 03 or 04 and nice ones are already going for MSRP. ($32k+)

Because I am already getting a Miata so I wanted to see what other cars people toss out to see if I may have missed something I'd like ;)

Right on.

What are you looking to do with the car? There are a couple of fwd platforms out there that can be big fun.

I just bought an older John Cooper Works Mini Cooper for pretty cheap.
I've owned a few in the past and they are like go-carts on steroids.
I was looking for a decent condition BMW 335 but couldn't seem to find one that I liked and fit my criteria. I came across the mini and jumped on it.

Right at 22k currently, so just outside, but a Mitsubishi Evo x MR, my old Subaru was a lot of fun, this shouldn't be any different, and it would rip on a circuit/autoX

Jaguar XK8 (X100 series). Maybe two so I have one to drive while the other one's in the shop.

I just hope it won't pick a catfight with my Hellcat
