Good evening HC family.
So my HC Charger broke down. The guy who was working on my car, did it in one location and was bringing it back to me in another. He was driving it on the highway (going 75) when he seen a bunch of white smoke and oil splatter out from the hood vents. No CEL appeared and the car was running fine he claims.. Only the smoke gave it away as far as a issue occurred. He pulled off the highway and pulled into a parking lot and said a bunch of oil poured out from where the filter is. It’s at the dealership now, waiting to get diagnosed. I did have valet mode set prior to giving him the key. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m wondering would it could be. Any feedback is appreciated!

Any chance a new filter was put on recently? Not unheard of for the gasket of the old filter sticking on the car and being overlooked. New filter goes on and leaks as the new gasket can't seal to the old gasket.

If not that it could be an oil cooler line failure.

What was worked on buy the guy driving the car?

He was doing aesthetic work at his shop and was bringing it back to me. Yes, a oil change was done about 2,000 miles ago

Aesthetic work that requires bumper removal? If so, entirely possible they inadvertently damaged the oil cooler or line(s).

Hopefully an easy fix. Glad they saw it so soon and didn't run the car dry. Would be a much more expensive fix.

Oh no he was only doing lighting work on the inside of the car. Yes he had a Scatpack himself

Never set my Hellcat to valet mode, but if in valet mode can the car even go 75mph? If not then valet mode was disabled.

If the guy was doing "lighting" (electrical) work SOP is to disconnect the battery. I believe this cancels valet mode.
Yes, I tried Valet mode to see if the mileage was any different on the highway. First off, it blocked the clock time, secondly it was sluggish as heck when trying to accel a little, and third, the mileage didn't change a bit.

I’m gonna guess the oil filter seal failed. But let us know what you find🤔

I do have a update! They’re trying to say the lines of my JLT catch can were backed up and caused the oil burst…. I call BS haha maybe a way to possibly void warranty? We’ll see, they said they’re going to do a “further evaluation”

I was wondering if it was the catch can too, or something to do with it, judging by the milky pool on the ground

When was the last time it was emptied?

I would make sure the engine is OK.

No chance it's the catch can. That would be an insane amount of oil being pushed through it to make that big of a mess. If the cap fell of when it was full, maybe, but that amount of oil from a running car, not a chance. If it is the catch can he's got major issues with that engine.

FYI on what an oil cooler line leak can look like. Pretty close to this car but I think this car is even worse. I'm still thinking line or filter gasket.

Yes it was actually the oil cooler that failed, they finally told me today. It’s covered under my powertrain as well
