It is a redundant button that allows you to go 'back' in menus rather than hitting the left arrow in the upper left corner. Or for example, when you are on the 'Radio' screen and go to Settings' the Back button will take you back to the 'Radio' screen.

I've noticed if I hit the SRT button twice, it also switches my car to the "custom" setting.

Correct, that is the documented shortcut to the Custom Drive Mode. Hitting the SRT button once will take you from whatever page you're in to the Drive Modes page.

Yes sir. I meant to "reply" to hellcat1's comment to clarify it because he said hitting it twice would take you to the performance page.
