Hey guys,

So a weird thing happened to me the other day..... Stock wheels and TPMS sensors on a 2019 6k miles Challenger widebody. I got in the car to pull it out of the garage to take a drive, noticed the wheel low pressure sensor was on. Looked to see where the pressure was, 25 psi on the driver rear, so I proceeded on since it was only 5 psi off from the passenger rear. I have R888R rear tires and run them both at 30 psi. Anyway, I run down to the local carwash just to run it through the brushless wash to knock some dust and bugs off. I come out of the wash and now my drivers front is showing low at like 20 psi and both rears are at 38 psi, along with the passenger front at 35 psi. I run the fronts at 35 psi, BTW.

What the h*ll is going on with these TPMS sensors?

We would be happy to take a look at the drivers front tire, sounds like it may have a puncture and the tire is going flat. We offer free air checks and tire inspections. If they do find a puncture we offer free flat repairs if it is safe to do so.

The other tires are likely just warming up causing the tire to build pressure. For every 10 degrees increase in temperature, your air pressure will increase by roughly 1 psi.

PM on the way.

Batteries in the sensors are reported to last 5-7 years, but mine didn't. Replaced @ 3.5 years. Mine is a '19 as well.

I'm assuming the battery is not replaceable and you had to replace the TPMS, correct?

The older I get, the more I find technology to be more annoying than helpful...

Yes, unfortunately the batteries are not replaceable in the Schrader TPMS; have to replace the whole unit.

The ones that came with the car were accurate and believable; I fought the 4 replacements and had to have 2 of them replaced again.

Ah okay, that makes sense then. The sensor batteries are possibly failing and causing erratic reading I assume?

Thanks, got your PM as well. Discount Tire in Clarksville Indiana is my tire shop, but this isn't a tire losing pressure issue, this is a weird sensor issue. One minute the front tires are showing 35 psi on both and the rear are at 25 and 30 psi, Then after the carwash, the fronts are showing 20 psi and 35 psi and both rears at 38 psi. No way air jumped into my rear tires. LOL It's like the sensors swapped from front to rear and vise versa.

Replies are indicating the sensor batteries possibly failing so this may be what is going on. I am still under factory waranty, so I may just need to get to the dealer to have them replaced.

Our apologies for misreading your post. There are certainly a few things that could cause the issue, I would still recommend stopping by your local Discount tire as we would be happy to scan the system at no charge.

Agreed!!! I got another set of sensors and wheels for my 21. So far 2 are working & two are still trying, I've driven maybe 30 miles or so.
That’s odd. I got a spare set of oem wheels and tires for my 2015 Hellcat Charger shortly after getting the car. (It went through rear tires like I was 16😂😂 although I’m in late 60s) but whenever I would replace worn tires with spares, it would take a few miles for the car to recognize different sensors. Never 30 miles though. I’ll say they all worked flawlessly from 2015 until I sold the car last March when I got my new Redeye. And I also put over 100K miles on the 2015 with the tire pressure displayed on the dash at all times. All because of traveling with no spare🙄

Since they are not locked to a position, they relearn every time you drive and can move around. Never trust the position shown. At least our 2009-2015 models are that way.

I never had these stupid things before the HC and for 50 years I never had a problem with tire pressure. Thanks to a lot of stupid, foolish, ignorant, oblivious, (add your own adjective) people, we have to suffer these "safety warnings". The worst part is, we can't turn these fking warning messages off!!!!!!!!!

I'm half tempted to remove all the TPMS's! From what I have read, if the car does not see any, it ignores everything.

I dropped off my wheels, tires and OEM TPMS's for mounting, their best guy is on vacation next week so I won't see them until the following week. I'll let you know in about 2 weeks.

Good luck. I’ve been glued to pressure readings from the time I got my 2006 SRT Charger and never had any issues. Hope you have just a small glitch that can be fixed.

It is very fixable, if I never swap wheels between the cars. I ordered the 22 wheels to match my 20 just so I could do that! Stupid Stellantis!!!!

I had an oil change, then after they suggested, a tire rotation on my daily driver 2015 Hellcat with 117K miles. This was a week ago. Now my "Service TPMS system" alert is displayed and the light stays on. Tires all have 30psi or more. Looks like a call back to the dealership
