Hello Hellcat friends,

As some of you know, I recently sold my Hellcat. It was a sore subject and still is sensitive, but I feel as if I have more financial freedom in order to do what I must as young adult. In lieu of this, I have the opportunity to relocate to a new state, and create a better life for myself.

My sector is an ever changing one, consisting of mostly peaks and valleys with each year being more unpredictable than the next. I think its time I change and possibly go into a more consistent field of work.

I am in Maryland at the moment, and am strongly considering leaving for A LOT of reasons, most of which are based around cost of living vs inflation of pay relative to said costs.

Where do you all live, and is your state the best there is? I am considering a few more strongly than others, top of which being Indiana. There are a lot of manufacturing companies that station themselves in Indianapolis etc., and it has come to my attention recently that they are #8 on the top 10 cheapest states to live in.

Any help on this would be immensely appreciated, as the best people to ask this to would be natives to the states.

Utah! Awesome outdoors and low cost of living depending on which part of the state. However, job market is not the nicest.

“Best” state is kinda like what do you think of this mod or what are the best tires since it depends a lot on the individual and what they need/want.

But …. We are in Illinois and have most of our lives, but I retired earlier this year. Worked as an accountant in manufacturing. I bought 10 acres near Cookeville, Tennessee a little over a year ago and we will be building down there in 3-4 years. No income tax, low property taxes and $0.50/gallon cheaper fuel. Great roads and many things to do and see within a few hours drive.

Now, if I was looking for work in the manufacturing industry, there isn’t a ton there, but it is a low-cost place to live.

I've been considering moving to Tennessee myself! What'd that 10 acres run you?

Indiana, Kentucky, both good. Not sure what type of work you do, but alot of manufacturing here in Ky. Ford and suppliers near Louisville, Toyota & suppliers near Lexington. Cost of living cheap, some of lowest utility costs in nation and the best roads.

Was hoping you'd chime in about the Fried Chicken Capital. What's the weather like?

Sounds like a nice place, I hear a lot of good things about Tennessee and Mississippi.

LMAO!! of course! Fried Chicken, Horse racing and the home of 95% of the world's Bourbon!! Weather is good, probably similar to Maryland. Maybe less snow. Summers 80-90, winters 20-40 average.
One more thing, there are more barrels of bourbon in Ky. Than people!! That's gotta say something!!!

I'm in MS but TN is nice. You get 4 seasons and no income tax. Plus it's beautiful. Wife is originally from Nashville, and we almost started out there. However, I imported her back to my home on the MS Coast. What started out as my family and my parents has now blossomed into 8 separate branches of the family relocating around us (Family has moved from GA, CO, TN, LA, and VA). Biggest gripe is the heat and hurricanes. But mostly the heat cause my fat a$$ likes the food (lots of creole, cajun, asian, southern, seafood) and I tend to not push away from the table fast enough.

Manufacturing is a black hole down here unless you like war ships and the occasional small business aero manufacturer. Exception: Stennis Space Center does have different companies with cushy tech jobs as I understand it. Never met anyone who worked there that wasn't in it til retirement. There are some auto manufacturers in central and northern MS.

I am in aerospace, and not sure I wanna change. Theres a place in Indiana that manufacturers plastics for various food products, and as much as theyre changing things from plastic to an alternative, I feel like they might be on the cusp of a huge market change and thus a ton of business.

Well then definitely check out Stennis Space Center. I know they have an Aerojet Rocketdyne and some other engineering/manufacturing firms onsite. Probably a Raytheon, etc.

And reading back over my previous post, just for clarification: TN = no income tax. MS = income tax, but still cheap to live here.
