The Redeye Jailbreak I priced out came to 101k. This would have been an 89-90k car in 2021. For funsies, I got a hold of a Chevrolet dealer in Jacksonville that could get me the car below at 91k+ fees. No ADM, 3 month lead time with Corvette museum pickup included.

3LT C8:

Car Tire Wheel Vehicle Photograph

The last C8 I sat in, I didn't fit well because it had the sport performance seats. The dealership has a 3LT with these premium seats for a demo, so I may go test fit myself to see if this is even an option.

I've never been a huge Corvette fan, but this Redeye Jailbreak has me second guessing myself. 100 grand is a lot for a muscle car. I've been driving a Challenger since 2017 in 2 different forms; the Redeye would be the third iteration. For 100 grand, I could get the same car all over again with the Redeye engine, but same basic car. Or, I could get the C8, an M4, a gently used 1-2yr old M5, a GT:R, or a 2 year old Aston Martin Vantage for roughly the same or less out the door cost of the new Redeye I want to order. The Jailbreak shenanigans they're doing with the price structure is really starting to put me into a sad place, as I have real issues with throwing money at something that cost so much less just a year ago (nothing I selected wasn't available in 2021). This holds especially true when you start to price compare options and trim with the Redeye vs. almost anything else in the same price bracket. Our cars are really just 2012-2014 cars in terms of tech level, where with these others that I've mentioned have modern, sometimes wildly more advanced tech options.

But, they're not 700+ torque and 800hp. So, there is that.

My other option is to just keep the one I've got. I have about 2 weeks to make the decision to sell it for the offer I was given (basically, my MSRP, which gives me about 20k in equity). Normally, I wouldn't be entertaining such things, but Dodge and their price structure on this Jailbreak is making me be a sensible shopper and to go price shopping competitors I wouldn't normally even think twice about. But, when you ask me for 100 grand, I start to look at all the other $100k shiny cars and... well... some of 'em are pretty nice.

Apples to oranges my friend. I bought my HCWB manual at night and the NEXT MORNING took a trip with a friend to get his C8. I’ve driven both. If looks are equal to YOU on both cars…

Challenger is a comfy cruiser that can scoot depending on the engine chosen. You could comfortably take a long road trip in it. Raw power and white smoke tires on command.

C8 is much more a track car that does nearly everything pretty well. I took a road trip in that car and it was not very pleasant. Nice seats but too cockpit-like for me. No white smoke ability that I am aware of and that thing HOOKS.

Buy the Corvette don’t look back
For comparison. I paid 89K for a Plum Crazy Demon full loaded. I ordered it no ADM.
I would NEVER BUY A CHALLENGER FOR OVER 100K for a Jailbreak. It Not a DEMON !
It will drop 15-20k in price in 12 months.

IMO, my personal opinion, I hate the C8. Looks like a space ship. And the weird switch tower inside. No thanks. A C7 though, yes! All day long!
As you said, challenger is aging big time, and being near the end, Dodge is commanding an ultra high price. Total BS for such old architecture, but damn it will go!! Just do what makes you happy!

I don't think this will happen. My 2020 standard body Hellcat is worth the same today as it was in early 2020. Sure, there's a bit of a bubble right now, but this bubble goes on permanent non-available status in 2024. The REWB I built out is similarly fully loaded, so assuming similar desirability. Givemethvin.com has offered me my original MSRP on my 2020, and it has 16k mi on it.

I agree except the last sentence. It will def not drop any time soon. Between the chip shortage (which will eventually correct itself) and the platform ending, no one is buying a used Redeye or Jailbreak for 20k less in 12 months.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. The C8 is just a confusing jumble of needlessly intersecting body lines. The car does not visually flow. I think people are enamored with it just because it’s so different. I think theyre going to realize it when GM refreshes the look and the current look is instantly ugly by comparison lol. I know it’s a performer but every time I see one the driver just looks theyre screaming “hey check me out! Please look at me!” Just feels over the top to me.

I fully expect non-Demons to not go up in collector value very much. I estimate that for the next 10 years or so, they will likely permanently float between 60k - 70k and not go much higher or lower than that. I suspect the REWB I order will do something similar in that it will hover long term within 5-10k of its MSRP. Some, like the M6 Hellcats, tasteful Jailbreaks, and Super Stocks, may do better. This is because we aren't talking typical model year depreciation tempered with new model releases driving down demand. This is not only the end of the Hellcat, but the end of the V8 Hemi in 2024 and thus, the end of the ICE performance era for Mopar, for all time. These cars are not going to tank in value if they're well kept because 100% of them can't be replaced by anything new.

The reason why they won't go up in value is because Dodge is making a metric ton of them, so rarity isn't a thing. Sure, most Jailbreaks are likely going to be a 1 of 1, but being the only white car with brass badges and red leather seats isn't going to make for a premium. The reason why the 426 Hemi cars of days past are so expensive is because they made less than 400 of them. They were non-available when they were new. This isn't the case we have here today, so while I think our cars will hold on to a lot of value, I don't think you're going to see 2022-2023 Hellcats trading for Viper money in the next 10 years. 15-20 years down the road, the well-kept examples might start trading for stupid money, but not the ones with mild modifications and regularly driven miles.

We bought mine as a retirement gift. I retire in 8 more working days.
I ordered my car in Feb. Of this year while there were still good discounts. Even through 2 shutdowns I got it in 9 weeks, way faster than I thought. I'm SOOOO glad I ordered it early. Wanted to pay it off before I retired, which we have done.
Wife loves the Vettes, I told her she's welcome to get one if she wants, but I'm keeping my Redeye.

guys, lets be serious, the C8 is neither ugly nor a bad car. It is all a matter of preference and opinions, much like with any vehicle out there. But I agree that it is very different from a challenger hellcat. Ultimately, the buyer makes that decision. I also agree with Xylander that the jailbreak motion is not worth the money being asked and it enters in a price bracket with other more competitive segments. The jailbreak option should have been free, making it a parts bin shopping experience for the last 1-2 years of the model run. Then, it would truly be compelling to purchase for even existing owners that might have compromised in the past and due to availability of options.

OP, make sure you test out the seats. I find all three variants are pretty similar, with just extra bolsters for cornering. Im 180 pounds, and all three fit fine for me, so I might not be the best test subject. If you struggle in one, sit in the version you want, before pulling the trigger. The Competition seat is by far the tightest, the other two versions are very similar.

Edit: Removed my personal anger at GM. Not the right place. Apologies.

On a side note, my 2016 Stingray is falling apart at 92k miles. It’s my wife’s car and only driven to work. So far, transmission has required a tow truck twice. AC broke, widow motor broke, rear hatch motor broke, temp sensor broke, and I’m waiting to take it in for the latest known issue, a leaking fuel tank. It’s so bad my eyes burn and I smell like fuel after driving. After all these cheap failures in my C7 and seeing GM had to open an investigation for the DCT in the C8, made me pull my deposite for my C8. Do a search for transmission issues in the corvette forum, seems a couple posts pop up weekly.

My 2014 Silverado shares a similar list of issues at 100k miles. GM uses a lot of cheap parts, so get a good warranty if you get one! Or don’t drive much lol.
Chevy quality can be crappy, but so does Ford and Dodge. I have had occasional in-cabin fuel smell in my 2016 HC that I am still chasing. Regarding degraded seats, one always can spend another 5k and get some top recaros and call it a day.

That’s a smoking hot vette! Tough decisions all the way around. I don’t think you’d be happy in a base vette, since you have already been exposed to hellcats. If you can’t get into a Z06, I’d wait for an Eray. But if you have to get something now, I’d lean towards the new M5.

True, I fear most of the big three will likely have issues at 100k miles. I’m just soured on how many I have in both my Chevy‘s.

I'm 6'5" and sit at around 260lb. I test drove a C8 back in 2020. It had the hard, ultra bolstered competition seats. That was a non-starter. They made my seating position hunched and uncomfortable, not to mention the seats themselves were hard. I've never sat in a C8 with the "normal" leather seats. I'm told it is an entirely different situation.

This is important for me as many of you know, I plan to daily the snot out of whatever car I end up getting. REWB, C8, or M4 AWD are the current top 3. I recognize that the M4 is likely the most daily friendly, but I've driven performance cars and only performance cars my entire life. So, I'm not expecting supreme levels of comfort here. The Challenger is a nice departure in that they are supremely comfortable. The 'Vette, not so much. Its ride is improved over the C7, but it is still a rigid performance car. My main issue has to do with seating position and leg room tempered with arm distance. I tend to drive "properly," as in, arm extended, the heel of the palm should rest on the wheel. For tall people like myself, this can sometimes be challenging as smaller cars often don't slide back far enough, which means I have to lean the seat back to achieve that arm position. In the C8 I test drove, I could achieve the proper sitting position, but the bolstering and seat design left me hunched over. I was good for about 20 minutes in that position. Even at the race track, where most people were smiles for days, I just wanted out of it and couldn't wait for my last few laps to finish (I was tracking hard in track mode, I imagine the touring or sport experience in a proper seat is much different).
