Hey I've read some stuff about this here but it seems to be the same ol story with everyone. My rear end started whining only after a couple thousand miles and got progressively worse over time, I have a long commute so I've put 34,000 or so miles on it in about a year and a half. The other day I drove at an undisclosed speed and let 6th wind it down instead of going to neutral and it sounded like a bomb was about to go off back there, took it to the shop and the guy said it sounded like the pinion bearing. Long story long they're replacing the "pumpkin" but I'm wondering if I'll have to deal with this in the future? And if so do you guys know of a way to fix what the factory can't?

Break the new one in just like a new car. <55mph for the first 100 miles, <65mph for miles 200-300, <75 mph for 300-500 and no full throttle in the lower gears for the first several hundred miles etc. Or it will whine too.
