Hi All, I’m new to ownership and the forum. I bought this hellcat and it was supposed to be in excellent shape ect. I bought it sight unseen from a dealership in Illinois… it arrived last night, wouldn’t start on the trailer, finally got it running and it smoked like a banshee… I was so angry I shut the hood so i could inspect in daylight this am. The car has numerous body flaws which I could take care of.. but was super low on oil, catch can full, low on coolant and had check engine as well as etc lightning bolt warning on dash. Drive to my local performance shop and dropped it just now for full diagnosis. If anyone know anything about this car let me know. It came from Texas.. thank you!!

Why did you take possession of a vehicle if it was Not as advertised? Did the transportation driver give you paperwork to sign?

Think you know all you need to know about the car already.

Unless you can unroll the purchase because the car is not as advertised or some other valid reason with legal weight behind it you are going to have to sort the car out. Could be relatively inexpensive (yeah, and pigs fly) or it could be expensive.

Hope it involves pigs flying.

SO, you want to know the previous owner WHY then??????? :) I would think that it's against the law to sell a car with an engine light on. Do they have the usual 30-day/1K warranty on used cars? Yes, keep us posted since all of those things could be minor.

It’s not against the law to sell a car with an engine light depending on which state it is, especially out of state. Really depends on what the code is. Even then the dealer will just tell OP to bring it in to check it, and that’s prob another long ass tow that he wont want to pay for.

I would try to return this car to the dealership you had purchased from. Hindsight is 20/20, but I would NEVER purchase a used vehicle sight unseen. There are far too often many unknowns.

This particular car in question I would NEVER purchase either. The mods that were done are huge red flags to me. This car came from Manheim (auction) in St Louis.

I purchased a 2012 GT500 several years ago, sight unseen, and had no problems. I had my bank work with the Dealership and when the transportation truck showed up, I thoroughly looked over the car and even test drove it around my area before accepting it and signing the paperwork the delivery driver had for me from the Dealership. If there had been any issues that were not disclosed, I would have refused to accept the car and Not signed any paperwork.

How are people actually buying used cars sight unseen? Damn I'm in the used car business and that seems just incredibly naive. Not saying it can't work but the odds of some type of disappointment are pretty high.

This is a classic example of what not to do while purchasing a hellcat.
Never send a wire transfer for any car sight unseen and have it shipped to you UNLESS you trust the dealership.
You are completely screwed and will get zero back from the dealer. AS IS is sold the way it sits, zero warranty, even if it blows up on the trailer.
Sorry to hear this happened, but these are not a "hope for the best when it shows up" car....

Yep, I've bought cars remotely, but never sight unseen. If I'm going to drop more than 30 grand on a car, I'm going to spend several hundred bucks and either fly and go see it first, or contact a local shop and have people go validate it for me before I send anything more than a $1,000 hold deposit.

Sadly, with the 2018 and prior used Hellcats just now coming up for grabs, this is going to be happening more often. Many of the early Hellcats were abused and now the owners are looking to sell their piles of problems. This is what, the 3rd or 4th one this week on this forum alone? If it were me, I'd have seen that green belt and said, "Hell no, bye Felicia" just off that alone.

Mods do not scare me.....

Once you talk to the owner you have a good understanding if they knew what they were doing.

Buying a tuned vehicle from a dealer, that is a no no. They have zero history, have no idea what tune is in it. Just asking for a disaster.

Low oil could be normal if it was wasn't changed for say 6K miles. Engine light could be something common and cheap like an 02 sensor. Catch can being full...well, that I don't like. If you change it with every oil change normal would be a few ounces. Hope its the easy / cheap stuff.

I'm not saying I am not positive There was a guy from Texas on here in the past. He was a Texas mile racer and had B5 Blue. @devildoghellcat I don't think he is around anymore at all.
But I think it could have been his. the group he was with at the Texas mile were all manual people.
