Been driving in street this whole time. Used all track mode today the whine seems way louder. I thought track just makes the exhaust louder as far as sound difference? Am I hearing things?

Love track mode on the highway.

At steady-state on the highway there's no difference. You'll be pulling low RPMs, no boost, low torque and horsepower. It takes something silly like ~25hp to maintain a 60mph speed.

But at lower speeds, city driving with start & stop there'll be a difference because the shift points are different. You'll stay in lower gears more, at higher RPMs. You'll generally be accelerating faster, demanding more torque and boost.

Again, just cruising on the highway... nothing in the engine bay will be different.

On the Durango track mode won’t shift into 8th gear so you would be turning higher RPMs at highway speeds in track mode versus other modes. Not sure about the challenger/chargers but I can’t imagine they are that much different.

mine is a 2017 HC challenger and you can manually force it into 8th in track but it will NOT stay in 8th. conversly it will automatically go into 7th and 8th when in sport mode depending on speed. that's where these motors shine is 8th gear at 2000+ rpm. you are hauling serious a$$ but ask me if I care....LOL

Try Custom mode with Track trans and street suspension. Same awesome shifts and pwr, without all the lowrider hopping all over town.
Your welcome

What I noticed is the whine is very noticable at moderate-heavy throttle and lower rpm. This is very obvious in the M6. Is track mode allowing you to give more throttle before downshift?

Could be. In track mode the shift points are way different then in street mode. Maybe this is why…..

it lets the car hang around in lower gear mores for sure at higher rpm’s. Not sure about the downshift I only have a few hours of seat time in this car.

Do you mean upshifting?
No, I'm talking about giving it throttle to hear whine but with the A8 the throttle causes downshift and you don't hear shot.

One of the very noticeable differences between the M6 and A8 is you hear much more whine with the M6. This because there are many situations where in the M6 you are heavy on the pedal in a higher gear and hear lots of whine. If you are heavy with the A8 it downshifts and blasts off.

You can manually change to 8th in Track Mode on a HC RE.
Yeah you can manually shift to 8th in track mode but it won’t do it automatically. 🍻
