I’ve been wondering for a while now what the difference is between a hellcat and hellcat redeye. Beside the 90 hp difference And a few cosmetics like the hood, what in depth differences are there? Any that stand out specifically?

On Challenger only. Charger goes to 717 standard on all Hellcats 2021, I think.

Demon engine with stronger internals and bigger blower was enough to sway me. The extra hp is just a bonus. The stronger axles, driveshaft, etc was just a bonus bonus. The dual fuel pump set up is also nice.
Also dont forget they just released a RedEye dealer install hp upgrade with 885 available hp.

One of the best articles on the engine. It has so many facts in it some of us forgot all the reasons we have purchased a Redeye. A Look Inside The Dodge Demon’s 840HP Hemi

As per above, soon we can get factory power upgrades from Dodge for the RE that may make them even more desirable with the strong internals.

So let me understand please. The Helcat Redeye I ordered and will be receiving in a couple of weeks has the same engine as the Demon? It can be upgraded to the 840HP?

IIRC, stouter driveshaft and half shafts, better connecting rods that are actually forged not sintered, and MAYBE heads from T56 aluminum heat treated to T6 (or maybe all Hellcats have that feature) This just off the top of my head, as I do remember kind of envying the list of modifications that, to me, were not just marketing fluff but actual engineering improvements.

I don't think it ends at "slap a 2.7L IHI blower in it to replace the Hellcat's 2.3" by any means. They (Dodge) don't want warranty grenades.

Specifically…
The crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons are all completely unique. The crankshaft is a forged alloy unit that received revised balancing and induction hardened bearing journals. The connecting rods are powder-forged units with upgraded shanks, big ends, tapered small ends to reduce weight, and ultra-high tensile strength ARP 2000 fasteners. The pistons are also forged and feature an inclined box well design for additional wrist pin support. Piston to wall clearance was increased 30 microns to accommodate both piston alloy and the heat expansion associated with the horsepower power level. At peak power there is a compressive loading of 11 tons on the piston and connecting rod.

The cylinder heads are cast from A356-T6 aluminum for its strength and heat-shedding properties.

Nice. The only thing that would stop me from getting a Redeye at purchase time is the automatic trans.

I guess one could get it changed so one could put Lenco rods on it (because it's a planetary anyway, what the heck) and have a Lenco effect with overdrive. But eight shift rods? :D Oh, the programming and building involved...

Just imagining the purists crying and braying over this is funny.

Be cool. Could be a guy who honestly came here for the info, he is blessed and for a change can be someone who traveled down a good road! How many of the opposite stuff have we been treated to over the years?

@Xtra Octane Merry Christmas! Tell us about yourself, obviously some are surprised on this forum that is full of passionate AND very informed Dodge fans that you admitted you did did not know a very fundamentally good thing about your new car.

When I read the introduction criteria, it stated this was a friendly community. WOW, some missed that!! I did not know that meant those less informed would be subject to arrogant responses. As you said "I honestly came here for info". Also stated "Please help us keep this site friendly and informative!" Only been here a couple of weeks and disappointed that some of the responses aren't dignified as such.
I put myself out there as one who does not know everything about the Hellcat but is willing to learn. Some don't get that. I've been President of an awesome car club since 2014. We are the epitome of car enthusiasts that enjoy the camaraderie associated with all makes and models of cars with no exceptions. So for those of you who think my posts are or should not be relevent, consider not replying and keeping it to yourself. I am only interested in posts from those who are willing to offer info I am looking for.
Thanks

My response comes from a place of doing research and being all excited before I personally make a purchase like this. I tend to not blindly buy anything that actually costs over $100 lol. When someone comes on saying they bought one of the top tier models without knowing at least the basics it is surprising. The responses were not arrogant imo, more of a “how can someone spend almost 100k without knowing the thing that makes it what it is?” kind of thing. You being president of a car club makes that more surprising. Anyway like Dgatz said, not our problem and most of us are willing to help if we can.
Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride and the learning curve. You will find a few of us ornery types but for the most part people are passionate and willing to help. Once you get to know who youre dealing with as individuals your tune may change.

I had a 19 charger hellcat and now a 20 challenger redeye.
They r very similar tbh. U can feel the extra power, but its not enough that id trade a newish hellcat in for a redeye. I only did it bcuz the hellcat tore its own control arm off at freeway speed and ya….u can guess the rest.

all in all any hellcat trim is amazing and can be tweaked. If ur gonna mod just get a hellcat, if ur staying stock then go redeye imo.

i say the same about my subarus. If u mod go base wrx, if ur stock get the sti.

Well, honestly, the Redeye is a better mod platform overall. It has beefed up axles, rear end, driveshaft, and lower internals over what's in the Hellcat. More specifically, the Redeye is a better race-ready platform. To be competitive and safe, a Hellcat has to put on a lot of what comes with the Redeye.

But yeah, if a person wants to really go hog wild on mods and do something like a 426 stroker on a Magnusson, a Redeye would be a waste of money. It could even be argued that the smart play would be to do that sort of a mod on a Scat Pack. That way, you'd end up with an all-in cost somewhere in stock Hellcat territory vs. $150,000 on an all-in Hellcat build + cost of the car for the same general performance.
