So my standard body Redeye is my daily. It is stock and staying that way. I don't street race and I don't 1/4 mile. But I do enjoy running the 1/2 mile a few times a year.

So with that said the stock 275/40/20 Pirelli A/S tires are becoming worthless and been looking at a few different tires (stock size) to run on the Redeye. I live in the Arizona Valley and I want a good summer tire but seeing how they don't last very long on the Redeye do not want to spend a ton...like for PS4S tires. I had the Nitto G2 on my Hellcat a few years back and they were okay...but I have been reading up on this Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire and reading some good things that make it sound like it might fit my need and budget.

Anyone running this tire on your Redeye? Thoughts? Pic for effect!!!

Lots of people have run these tires and have nothing but good things to say about them. I believe they're speed rated to 168mph though so take that into consideration if you're running 1/2 mile or more.

Good point about the speed rating...but since I am keeping my Redeye stock I would think I would run no faster than mid 150's in the 1/2 mile...if I can get it rolling...LOL

Thanks for the feedback...do you have splash guards installed? Because I do and I find when I wipe out my wheel wells and the inside of the splash guards small tire bits get on the towel or fall on the ground...so I feel like my splash guards are catching them???

had them on my 18 M6 T/A 392. Really liked them as an all around summer tire for the price. I bought them again for my 1320 but even with the 305 size on the back, the A8 and 3.09 gear light them up with ease. Otherwise still a good handling tire. Wear pretty well too. But Id look for something stickier on the back.

The Firehawk is a good tire for the price point. However, I don't think it's a good tire. It's just a good cheap tire. Keep in mind that the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season has a better proven grip rating than the summer compounds of most tires (Pirelli included) and it has more than double the treadwear rating. The PS4S Summer tires are godlike, but they're pretty expensive.

IMO, the best all around tire for our cars for folks who drive them regularly on the street, is the Michelin PS4S All Season. Even on a Hellcat, folks are getting 20k+ miles out of them. While they're not cheap, they will in fact outlast 2 full sets of Pirrellis and the Michelins don't suffer bad traction fade as the tires wear. I got a set at a local tire store for 205/ea mounted and installed.

I have tried the Indy 500s in the same stock size. My slow little Hellcat had no problem blowing the tires off. It's a night and day difference with the Michelins.

I'm considering putting these on the front's of my FR73 replica's and putting 305 Michelin PS4S on the rears of the 10.5" rears.

Still a little apprehensive of mixing F&R tires though.

I ordered the PS4S in January, but they were not available (and apparently availability is still a problem) so I went with the Indy in March. I have no complaints but I only can compare them to the stock P0AS which are almost worthless. I would have bought the PS4S if they were available but I'd much rather have the Indy than the P0AS.

I think the issue is that if you can "afford" a HC, you can afford the PS4S, assuming you can get them. If it were a Mustang GT....

I was doing some 0-60 practice today. I have no idea how the PS4S would do, but the 305 Indy's light up in 1st when I hit about 3500-4000. I now understand why DR's are so popular. (The stock P0AS are a joke on these cars!)

I had them on a previous Hellcat. As others have said they were ok but not great. I tried doing autocross with them a few times and they were pretty much worthless. Most street tires would be so not a fair test. For my situation living in a cold climate I prefer a really good all season tire since I don't put enough miles on the Hellcat to justify two sets of tires because they get old before they wear out. If I lived in Arizona like the OP I think they would be fine for a decent year round street tire.

Keep in mind that tire longevity is directly related to the traction rating on our cars. If the tires break traction, they spin and burn off the tread quicker. This is why the PS4S last as long as they do and come with a tread wear warranty. They're a better compound that inherently lasts longer and they also provide better traction which reduces wheel spin, further increasing their usability.

As I mentioned before, I daily the PS4S all seasons and they show practically no wear in almost 6,000mi thus far. The Indy 500s wear similar to the P-Zeroes. They don't suffer traction fade as bad as the P-Zero, but they won't last half as long as the PS4S. So, basically double the cost of the Indy 500 and that's about what you'll expect to spend over time had you bought the PS4S instead.

I appreciate your view and opinion...its all good and that is part of what makes these forums great as you can tap into others experience. My experience with PS4S was on a tuned (630hp) AMG C63S Coupe. I never felt like I got the wear for the money and I was not out doing burnouts, etc...just some hard digs from time to time and 1/2 mile raced a few times. I also sometimes think some people (not you) are drinking the PS4S Kool-aid...LOL

And a speed rating of 168mph doesn't mean you cannot go faster than 168mph on the Indy tires. The speed rating is defined as "the optimal speed that the tire can safely maintain over time." I don't know about you guys but I don't plan on cruising anywhere at 168mph or greater for any length of time. I daily my Redeye and plan to 1/2 mile race it 2-3 times a year. That means I may hit 155mph for a few seconds 2-3 times a year and "maybe" doing a quick pull on an open freeway from time to time. So do I need a Y rated tire? Probably not unless I was planning to run the Texas Mile and planned to run it over and over.

Anyway with all that said I think the PS4S is a great tire...but I also think the Pirelli P Zero summer tire is a great tire (Oh I am going to pay for that one...LOL) as I had those on my 2017 Hellcat and loved the way they worked with the car and got decent miles out of them. Also everyone seems to bash Pirelli YET it is the ONLY tire that Formula One runs...Hmmm...interesting. Again another one I will pay for...LOL

But seriously it is all good discussion and anyway you present it everyone will have their different opinion and experiences and I welcome all...HECK that is why I started this thread to see what others opinion was on the Firestone Indy 500 tire...Thank You!!!

I just put these on my HCWB I like the look and tread pattern the roads are cold up here so they are not as sticky as they should but it doesn't bother me ..I don't have any pictures yet
