Hello everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jeff, I am from Kitchener, Canada. I am in the process of building my dream Datsun 240z and swapping a hellcat motor into it.

The zainy idea came to me when i was out with one of my good friends whom i believe has the highest mileage Dodge Demon. Not sure if you saw his IG dustbag72. In fact Dustin may be on this forum.

We did some test fitting last week and she is tight but we can make it work. (Oil relocation, custom oil pan and new headers need to be made)

Reason why i came here is to get some advice and see if anyone makes Hellcat header flanges?

And this is the rendering of what it will look like... a little supercharger will stick out ..... Note we took some styling cues from the Dodge Demon front end.

I agree with Muscle Car, it needs a open hood scoop to put some cool air over the supercharger. Heat extractors will help plus looks cool. Cooling will be your biggest issue. Good luck with the project. Also if you cannot find flanges bring me the stock headers and I will laser cut you some 304 stainless flanges. I am located in Vaughan.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I appreciate all the feedback and constructive criticism is what i look for. Right now its just a quick mock up of how it will sit. I am not able to sink it lower without serious modifications (maybe another inch but that's about it). I truly think it will look cool sticking out of the hood. My buddy whom is a 3d graphic artist is going to scan the car so we can come up with some different types of renderings for the hood. So i am not set on anything as of yet. We are creating and designing a carbon fiber wide-body kit for it as well. Need some serious rubber under this bad boy.

I was on a tangent this morning to get some answers..... I have located a rear sump oil pan that works perfectly for my application from Bouchillon Performance. (includes everything i need to make it work) I also figured out the oil relocation..... and found a supplier for the header flanges. (MarkP, thank you so much for the offer)

Tonight we are making mock up engine mounts so we can set the motor perfectly including trans location which is almost perfect already.

If you guys are somewhat interested in the process please follow my Instagram for all updates its @rwb_kitchener. I also have been documenting the build on youtube "RWB Jeff" for fun. Most of the videos were of the tear down and other fun things i do with my friends. Please don't be super critical as its really hard doing video...this is all done on my spare time in the evenings.

Thank you
Jeff

You need some you tube video time on this project. It would be a great HC motor build and bet you would get a lot of hits. Plus gives all here some insight on possible other mods to different chassis. And just will be interesting to see how she runs and looks thru the process. So start videoing your step by step build which even you at the end will look back and learn something.
Oh forgot to mention my first car was a 1976 Datsun 280Z. The Datsun Z line was my favorite in the 70s.

I have started a youtube page..... Its tough with a full time job, wrenching a few times per week with friends and editing...OMG Mad respect for all those who document.

Here is my channel I started a few months ago. If you would like to follow along the way and enjoy what you see. Please subscribe.

Please note, i am by no means a car builder (most of this is new to me) but i have experience working on my RWB and building a lot of it.. This is something i have dreamed of most my life to try and achieve. I have many talented friends helping me along the way.

Welcome to the community and the best on your project. Do keep us posted along the way. Cheers!!

Welcome and good luck. Obviously massively reinforcing the frame. Gonna have to either pour concrete in trunk, or load allot of Tungsten in it.

Man that's gonna be a sick ride. One of my favorite builds the shop that does my work did was a 240 with a small block and a 76mm turbo. Sadly, the owner wrecked it first pass. Back in 1996, I had a 91 5 speed Maxima we put a 300Z turbo engine in it with an Electromotive TEC-II stand alone. Made 280fwhp on 8psi with no intercooler. It was a roll racing beast back then. I love 240's. There was a local shop here call Z Excellence. They would put the straight 6's in 240's. They were pretty quick little cars.

Good luck man. Looking forward to seeing this build come along.

What the hellcat is going on here man that’s going to be a rocket I only hope it doesn’t tip over when you hit the brakes the center of gravity is going to be off just a bit hope you use titanium for the frame like maybe a old jet fighter or use liquid filled rear tires that’s a hellofa a project looks great so far think you might hit the ozone if the ground isn’t real smooth good luck can’t wait to see it coming along

This is ground control to major tum
Your cleared for take off put your seats and tray table in lock down

Hope you can get a rear and trans in it? IMO, you do not need heat extractors or a hood scoop to cool off the supercharger. Obviously, you do need all the other cooling features that come in the Hellcat engine compartment.
Or just build a water to air heat exchanger system ?

I am using a TR6060 6spd trans from a 2013 Challenger...

Jeff

What is your confidence level of this transmission holding up to the torque output of the HC motor?

Your final curb weight will/should be lower than Challenger, so that will help, some...

My understanding is that this transmission is quite robust. Many current challenger owners with tuned rides at over 750hp and 740 ft lbs to the wheels has no troubles. I am not sure what a challenger weighs.... 4500lbs??? I expect Hell-Z to be in the neighborhood of 2500-2700 lbs

Thank you. This is all done after work or on the weekend. I have to drive thirty minutes one way to the shop. Just to put a video out once a week....I have at least 25 hours invested in working and editing each week over and above normal life. But i am loving it. And when people appreciate it...it makes me want to do better.

These cars are originally a uni-body with a very small frame rail that only goes half way back. I am running full tube from front to back. We are also going to tie it all in to a full cage. I think some will be like what are you doing in the next few videos...but the process has been proven to work time and time again by other Z owners swapping V8's into these cars.

Wow this is quite something - you do good work. If I were doing this, I'd get the engine and trans as low and rearward as possible, every quarter inch counts here. I dont know if you're making a new oil pan, how close the crankshaft weights can get to the frame crossbeam, of the flywheel/flexplate to the road. Where ever the limiting factor is on this...looks like it could handle quite well by the renderings. Are you leaving the stock spindle locations, or is the front axle new? Very nice work. Steve

Thanks Steve, I am using a custom oil pan from Bouchilon Performance. 2" at the front and 5.5" at the back. I have pushed the motor as far back as it will go without cutting into the firewall. The stock spindle location will remain. I am just waiting on which company I will use for the new full suspension, fully adjustable. I have a couple of great companies to work with... One of them reached out to me and is coming out with something special not yet out to the public.
