The noise was more obvious at higher speeds, certainly 65mph and was really noticeable when I had a chance to drive at 80mph or a bit higher for some few miles.

At 45mph I don't know. There was some supercharger whine I think but I don't recall any other noises.

UPDATE: I drove the car today and under light throttle at around 65mph I hear a faint whine. Really it is not that loud. I think it is the diff because when I lift off the throttle the whine goes away. At higher speeds it didn't get any louder. At lower speeds other noises like the supercharger, mask any noise from the diff.

Almost 18K miles on the car. I'm thinking if the noise was a sign of a problem the diff would be making more than a faint whine.
Turn the Music ? UP !!

I gotta ask how you all think you hear a whine in the rear at any speed over 40, the SC whines, the car itself growls, and the tires are always squealing. Mash the peddle harder and you will only hear the sounds of fury! Makes me smile just writing it! Good luck.

Sometimes when reading these thread on rear end whines I wonder about them and think why I don't hear anything I would complain about.
The Hellcats came off the line more of a race car.Race cars make noise. ?
Maybe I just don't have the problem with my Hellcat or maybe it's because I also drive a 3500 Ram Diesel Dually and anything is more quiet than that.

Well aware the Hellcat while probably not as close to a race as you portray it is a high performance car to be sure and will not be Lexus quiet.

Didn't expect it to be.

With a new car and becoming familiar with Hellcat while I didn't expect quiet what I did hear in some ways was more than I expected to hear.

But over time I've become more familiar with the car and the noise it makes and really while I hear the supercharger at lower speeds, and some diff whine at intermediate speeds, and will probably once again as the "new" tires wear hear tire noise at higher speeds I will know the source of the noise and not really give it much thought.

It doesn't help in my case that I do not drive the car every day and my two cars are quite different so when I return to my Hellcat it is in some ways unfamiliar to me.

@Rockster I understand your thoughts. This is especially true.

So here's an update with my current situation, I changed out my rear end fluid and like someone on this thread has said before on their demon it was in fact 5 oz low on fluid.... I replaced it with the mopar 75-140 viper fluid and mopar friction modifier. It has been 2 days and the whine is still present, and did not get quieter and now I can notice it at higher speeds. I'm going to give it a couple more days then try the amsoil gear oil. Has anyone have any input? and yes, you guys are right this noise is completely normal and you can expect this out of a 717 horse power car but I have buddies that don't have any noise at all and I guess you can say I'm a perfectionist.

Changing gear oil seldom has any effect on the whine, if you have groan or chatter around turns then the oil and additive will cure that, but whine usually more about gear lash and setup and different oil can't do anything about that.

Amzoil with Slip Lock solves the Whine

This has been a common problem with many hellcats and I wanted to know if anyone has a solid solution. When the car is at 45 mph or 65 it sounds like a minor whine coming from the rear end. I give the car very little throttle and it will start to make the noise. The car has made the noise since new and I now have 6400 miles on it. I've ignored it but It is now a little worrying to me. And yes, I did break the car in correctly according to the service manual. Anyone have confirm fixes that I should try? I've heard people doing a fluid change with a friction modifier, and people going under warranty to get a new pumpkin. Thanks!
sadly I have contacted ZF with no response, so it’s either really really normal or really really???

My take is if the whine was normal then all cars would have the whine but they don't so it can't be normal.

For any dealer saying it's normal, have him pull a car off the lot and take you for a ride and if it's quiet then he owes you a new rear end.

Any update on this? I'm looking for a fix as well. My 2018 is whining on and off the gas pedal.
Im taking the car to the dealer this weekend, Ive changed the fluid multiple times, used amsoil and mopar fluid and it still whines . the amsoil did make it a little less whiney but its still there for sure. Ill keep you updated

One of my good friends is a service adviser at a local dodge dealer and they say the 392's challengers jeeps and chargers and hellcats can whine. He said its like a lottery if you get a whiny one or not. He said its normal and will do no harm. Then again he said if you do go through warranty, theres a chance you can still have a whine! So he tells me if its not to bad to deal with it.

I'd rather deal with it than have people at the dealership mess with my car. If you have a good dealership, go for it. None of the ones around me are worth a dang when it comes to the high performance cars.

Have the driveshaft inspected, specifically the carrier bearing.

If the carrier bearing is good, then have a service manager conduct a ride-along to hear the sound you are experiencing between 45-60mph. They can then look into replacing the rear differential and fluid under warranty.
Couldn't help but notice you seem to have an alleged solution to 99.9% of all tech issues posted on this Forum.
Which leads me to my question...what exactly are your credentials? Are you an automotive, design, or mechanical engineer? Auto technician? All of the above? Or just a self proclaimed expert on everything?
