I've been researching this recently. The options I've found so far are:

• Gorillas
• Mcgard (both locking and just plain lugs)
• White Knight
• DP Accessories
• Circuit Performance
• Moroso

It's hard to tell the exact quality of each. Some reviews/tests suggest that of them all Mcgards actually lasts the longest against corrosion. However, that's for the chrome ones. I haven't seen any comparisons for black colored lugs of which there's several kinds:

• PVD chrome (mcgard's uses this, supposedly most rugged of the black coating options)
• electro plated chrome
• black oxide
• anodized
• painted

I also haven't seen any of them actually mention what type of steel they use, which I'd think could be important.

 

Gorillas or not at all. IMVHO

 

I've read many mixed reviews about Gorillas including that they aren't so durable. But a lot of people seem to swear by them.

 

I ran them on my 08 Challenger for 11 years and on my 15 Hellcat for 7 years without any issues, so.....

I am aware the black coating will scratch off easily so I’m mindful when handling them

Very interesting, and compelling design.
Two questions though:

• what's to stop someone from drilling it and using an easy-out?
• is there any way to make them not ugly? having one cone out of 5 lug nuts doesn't come close to matching--do they have some sort of optional cap?

 

Gorilla locking (all are locking)

 

I use black Gorilla locking lugs mixed with conical, Advanced Wheel Locks. Because the Gorilla set of 20 lugs is $100 and the Advanced wheel locks sell for $165 for a set of four, I installed four Gorilla lugs and one Advanced wheel lock per wheel. The Gorilla lugs can still be defeated using a Gator Grip and a lot of effort, but the AWL lock is pretty impervious. I figure even if a wheel thief defeats the Gorillas, he'll probably lose his mind when he comes across the AWL, LOL!

 

Does adanced wheel lock make any that fit tuner wheels? (usually need splined lug nuts)

Where/how do people store their wheel lock key?
Seems like just storing it in the glove box could be counter productive--any thief would be willing to break a window to search for the key there.

 

I put the lock key into a small drawstring bag with an earth magnet, and secure it to an inside fender/trunk/engine bay surface. Wheel thefts are always thefts of opportunity. A thief won't spend a lot of time looking for a key, that's why they rely on Gator Grips or hammering an old socket wrench on the wheel lock to force it off.

Also, hang on to your non-locking OEM lugs. The last thing you want to do is piss off your wheel guy when you bring your Hellcat in for new tires or brake work by making him unlock all twenty lugs. I swap out the locks with the OEM's the night before. No lost keys, no scuffed aftermarket lugs, one happy wheel guy.

 

Or better. I take my wheels off myself and just take the wheels to the tire shop. I simply don't trust minimum-wage tire jockeys to not scuff my wheels or to carefully torque them back on.

Black gorilla, off and on all the time, no real issues. Ordered an extra socket. Had to order an extra single nut too, tire shop lost a nut somehow.
Store it in a secret place in the car, pull out when bringing to the shop.

Gorilla "The System" Locking lugs. All lugs are keyed and good quality

 

I bought some McGard spline lugs for my Welds since the stock ones will not fit. I was very pleased with the quality of the lug nuts. They are very nice and do not feel cheap.

 

The key to keeping black lug nuts looking good and not rusting is to never use an Impact on them. Hand tighten and loosen only.
