Air intake

 

I know its the intake however this is just twisted up in there just flopping around

 

Whilst drag racing?????? Seriously, mine is snog but back aways from the screen?

 

It’s supposed to be positioned where the moisture will drip, mine was perfectly placed and it works great.

 

Really, for drag racing? I thought it was like a pre-filter for the air box.

 

From what I was told that is the purpose, maybe someone knows more than me.

At idle, the air intake primarily draws from the lower fender intake point (pictured in OP). When the car is moving, if you have a hood intake (2019+), that becomes the primary air inlet that moves the most air. Air is then forced down into the air box. The air catcher inlet adds ducted air directly onto the filter and creates a vortex that empties out the bottom, thus ensuring the coolest air mass possible caused by the fact that air is not sitting stale inside the air box. This of course assumes that the hood is aligned properly and makes a seal with the air box
