I have done a search but I couldn't find a consistent answer.

Why do people get the Black Satin hood option? Strictly for cosmetics / historical look? Or are there any performance / thermal / weight benefits?

With luck, I hope to post soon about getting a Hellcat!!

Thanks,

T Bone.

One the most rewarding benefits is the glare reduction from the hood.

I love my vinyl satin black wrapped hood.

Cosmetic. Ordered my satin black 3M 1080 wrap off amazon for $70. Will put it on next weekend probably. Receiving my black HC challenger tomorrow or wednesday :)

The street/race scene in the sixties had hoods etc in primer. So Chrysler did the same beginning in 1969 with the 6 pack cars for street cred. Ironically today's kids do the same with their tuner cars, and my friends think they look cheesy on tuners but not on Mopars. Personally, as I've matured i prefer a solid color car with no stripes, but do understand why someone would feel otherwise.

This is why .... (not the wheelie .. the looks)

History. Historically, more women will throw their panties at a car with a matte black hood. I've run exhaustive testing on my cars with standard hoods and with matte black hoods, and I have concluded that this is indeed true.

On any given day, I will only get maybe 2 or 3 pair of panties thrown at me (followed by the standard begging and promises of fulfillment) however, when I drive my Hellcat (equipped with satin black hood), I can average 6-7 pair... on a weekday. Weekends, I just get buried and have to protest loudly to get them to stop. It's honestly kind of a burden.

Haha.... Will use Panties as my standard answer now!!

Any idea on resale value??

Without getting into too many details, looks like I have a Hellcat on order with the Black satin hood AND Brass Monkey wheels.... Will post more details a later date.

It isn't primer. It is a specific finish color. Foreign manufacturers do it in many colors and call it "frozen", or "frost". I got mine to match my 1970 Challenger R/T.

This thread begs the question: Why would anyone pay $2,000 for an OEM painted hood when they could get the hood wrapped in vinyl for less than $400 (typically, between $250 and $350).

Easy, I got mine wrapped because I was in black hood hell for almost 90 days and got tried of waiting. I ordered the factory hood for same reason I have a blacked out hood on my 340 Duster, because mother Mopar made it that way and it's just too damn cool. :D:D:D:D

I recall the black option being more like $900 and not $2K.

I don't understand the extra $1k for the black hood, either.

Sorry for the earlier rant on the interior....maybe it's not such a big deal.

Well I'll be damned. I've had this Charger Hellcat since late in May and never even noticed the crappy interior. I'll try my best to check it out when I fire her up again... and hear her roar!!!

I thought about getting the satin black hood, but seems these days most of the police cars I see have a black hood on them, so it kinda took away the allure for me. I agree, it does look badass on a red car, or on purple or green.
