Why Don't More Hellcats Have the Tan Interior?

It seems like 95% of Hellcats have black interiors. The tan looks so good just wondering why more don't come with it. The red also looks super sporty but I get why that might not be for everybody.

I wanted the tan but my wifey was dead set against it. Luckily for her the car I ordered was taking too long and I found one 600 miles away, fully loaded but with the black interior.

Was on my original order that sent me to VON HELL.

The dealer stock I found and purchased was ordered with a stock black interior :(

Several possible reasons:

1. Most people who buy Challengers in any trim level do so because they like the "retro" look of the original Challenger. I cannot recall any muscle cars from the 70's that had anything other than a black cloth or black vinyl interior.

2. Owners spend a considerable amount of money on their Hellcats and likely take in to consideration what the future resale value may be. Sepia, IMHO, is an acquired taste and may affect future desirability even though the combinations of Sepia with any color makes the car "unique". It's kind of like the desirability of a brown / tan Corvettes, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. Those are pretty hard to sell.

3. All of this being said, I had a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Silver with caramel / Black interior and really loved the car. Unfortunately, a herd of Michigan deer broadsided the left side of the car and I unloaded it after it was fixed. I just bought a 2015 Jeep GC SRT Billet Silver with Sepia Laguna and love the car. It gets many compliments. For me, it's like good Scotch Whiskey, an acquired taste! (FWIW, Sepia was never a consideration for my Hellcat.)

I get lots of compliments on my Sepia. It breaks up the all black interior as well. Mainly got it because it is cooler...temp wise...during the hot SoCal summers.

Before I looked at my PCP Challenger i looked at a 2016 B5 Blue with the black hood and BM wheels with the Sepia interior. It was all different shades and the sepia interior did not go well with that color. IMO the Sepia interior should go with Black, Silver and maybe a red car. It might look good if they ever come out with Hemi Orange in this car.

I love mine. I think it looks great and everyone who sees it says they love it too!

I have Phantom Black with the sepia interior and it looks classic. The sepia interior makes the overall Hellcat look like a luxury muscle car for the lets say more mature owner. I'm 54 and the green, purple and orange colors would make me look like I'm having a midlife crisis. I love their looks especially with the black hood. If I were younger I would have chosen one of these colors too. However, the color combination package I chose is more my style and my age. I can take my wife out on the town and race home just like all the other colors.

As all the above posts show it is a matter of taste. I kind of like the Sepia with certain exterior colors like black...Lime Green and Sepia just don't work in my eyes...but that is just IMO....Having been a former LEO I had to drive too many Crown Victorias painted white with a tan interior.... My favorite interior is all black but I am really liking the black/ruby red theme in my HC...

Simple reason is black interiors go with almost any exterior color. Sepia really only "fits" with certain ones. As mentioned, the Sepia is a love it or hate it color. As folks can imagine based on my signature, I'm a love it guy. I like how it breaks up the black interior bits inside the car and with proper care, should look great for years to come.

Last year, January of '15, when finding a car at MSRP was next to IMPOSSIBLE, I lucked out and had the opportunity to buy either a Phantom Black A8 or Pitch Black A8... both on the showroom floor at MSRP, buyers couldn't get financing... I PASSED because both had that awful Sepia interior... the salesman couldn't believe it when I said I was passing...

Is it tan? Is it orange? Is it brown? Reminded me of the diapers I used to change after my kids ate squash or sweet potatoes...

LMAO - nice comparison!

And yep - can't stand it and if that was all they offered the car would have the seats ripped out and at a shop ASAP for recovering

Since the car had to be black for me...can you imagine tan interior??...grow a big 'stach, wear a cowboy hat and call me Bandit!. Why I can't stand the brass monkey's either...reminds me way too much of that car. And while no question an iconic car if there ever was one...I bleed Mopar

Now that I think about it, I bet a bunch of people have no idea what color the word 'sepia' refers to. So if they see black or some weird word on an order form, they just select 'black'.

Somehow I remember first seeing the word Sepia on one of the brown crayons in my Crayola box when I was a kid.
