the thief's phone will pick up there is an airtag pinging off it though...its a feature you cannot shut off. You can thank all the stalker f#cks that use them to attempt to track their victims. You can hid it all you want....the thieves iphone will make your airtag play a sound so they can easily find it and get rid of it
After three days. That’s two and three quarter days longer than I’ll need to find it. Then you know. Catch a case. Lol

Yes!!! Tough guy alert!!! I'm sure you wont get charged at all for shooting a thief. Oh, and this might come as a shock to you but you wont be able to claim self defense. By you attempting to reclaim your stolen property, you put yourself into danger, and once you do that...bye, bye self defense....

About the only thing you said that makes any kind of sense is that if caught, the thieves will walk, not 8 hrs later, but the next morning after they are given a $2500 personal bond (meaning no money)
Remember OJ??

There are ways to disable the speaker. 😉

Young person? Bad driving record? Lots of claims on file?
I'm 44, clean driving record, $118/mo with Travelers. $300k property damage, 150k bodily injury. $250 deductible. Roadside/rental included. Florida.
Again, it's the state. My insurance was half what it was before I moved to Colorado. CO insurance is just expensive.

A good read on using AirTag as a car tracker:

I prefer, and went with Ameriloc. Obviously more expensive and requires a subscription,:

AMERICALOC GL300 GPS Tracker MXW https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0197FV8YU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VHG08V012NSRPMVMS833

Add Revelco for some serious protection:

Yeah for sure. Any state with highly populated areas drive up insurance. I don’t blame you for selling, I wouldn’t pay that much for insurance either. My wife and I have a cabin in Bayfield CO, but we only go during warm weather, forget the CO winter stuff lol.

Travelers. USAA for me is actually about $80/mo more for half the coverages and a $1,000 deductible.
USAA is getting pretty greedy lately, Just another giant corp. I have them, they used to be "for the military, by the Military". Not anymore.

that’s the first I’ve heard of someone not satisfied with them. My family has had USAA for a long time and they have been nothing but good for us.

Good? yes

Get claims out, payment quick?? Yes

The amount they charge for someone over 60, spotless driving record, three vehicles, and mortgage insurance is crazy high.

I used to have USAA. From 1998 to 2008. When I went disabled, I was retired at 50% of my pay and was unable to work. It took me a couple years to get the finances sorted out. This was prior to the Veterans Protections Act that protected disabled vets from financial disaster. In my case, I had a lot of bills and a paltry income that I couldn't fix as I was laid up in hospital for a long time.

I had both my car loan and insurance through USAA during this period. I called and spoke to a representative and said, "Here's my situation... disabled, fixed income, etc... I have enough money on-hand right now to pay you either the car note or the insurance. I can pay the other in 2 weeks." The advisor stated that I should pay the insurance so I didn't have a coverage lapse and that it would be fine to pay the car note a couple weeks late. "Great, I'll do that, thanks."

Well, 2 days later, I get a notification that my car was missing from my neighbor. I had her call it in as stolen because I didn't authorize anyone to drive my car (I had the only set of keys with her). When she called, she was notified that the police were pre-warned that the car was being repossessed. Sometime the next day I got USAA on the phone and asked what the deal was as I had spoken with them just a couple days ago and made a deal on the payment. Long story short, they denied ever making a deal for almost a month until they finally changed their mind and said, "Oh yes, there is a note on your account that we overlooked. But this doesn't change the status of your vehicle."

Now, the STATUS OF MY VEHICLE was that I owed, get this, a sum total of $884 to pay off the loan. I Was 3 payments out from paying off the car. I was 30 days late on a $304 payment, however. So, they repo'd my 10-year old Mustang worth about 10 grand for a past due amount of $304. Then, once they realized their error, they said I needed to pay the back due balance to get it back. I assumed this was going to be $304, which I was prepared to pay anyway. However, they tacked on $2,900 in towing/recovery fees and $1,100 in storage fees as they towed it from NW FL to TAMPA and wanted me to pay it all back. For added insult, they said I'd have to come to Tampa to pick up the car.

I remember it plain as day. I took a selfie of myself laid up in a VA hospital bed with all the wires and tubes and sh*t and said, "Does it look like I'm able to come to Tampa to get my car?"

The USAA rep responded, "You'll need to pay an extra $820 for delivery back to your home address. The total you will need to remit is $4,918. Would you like to pay cash or credit card?"

I told them F'k it, keep the car and I canceled my insurance as well. As an aside, I ended up having to declare bankruptcy about 3 months later on $3,100 of debt as I had absolutely no way to repay anything. It was such a sobering and sad state of affairs back then. USAA didn't help me one bit, and retrospectively, caused the majority of that unpayable debt and loan charge offs that ruined my credit for years.

Stories like this all over. More so on firearms sites, more vets I suppose.

Just another greedy corp. that spends millions on stupid adds trying to recruit more people for the ones they ran off, instead of lowing rates and attracting people that way.

OK, enough of the hijack, back on topic.

So hope this helps y’all a little. I just canceled my USAA and switched to Hagerty. Hag allows guaranteed value and not just NADA Black book of the car goes missing. Also with the air tag thing, I have one in my Cat, and in my 16 year olds car. Prior to putting them in both cars, I removed the speaker from the air tag, then hid them in the car. This prevents someone from activating the tone on the air tag. The batteries are replaceable and they work great. They need an Apple device to monitor but will ping off of android and Apple devices for location. They don’t alert you to movement but will help track your car when it’s gone from the parking lot. Hope this helps.

How do you remove the air-tag speaker?

As someone who spent the better part of 20 years in the finance department of a very large volume dealship group, and was involved in more repossions than I can remember, it is my experienced and well-informed opinion that there is more to this story. I know of no auto lender that would initiate a repossession for an account that was 30 days late. Most won't do it for a 90 late account. I used to arrange financing for people with multiple 90 day late payments on previous loans that were never repo'd. And prior to a repo being ordered, there is A LOT of documented communication between the lender and the borrower. Finance companies know how to CYA, so if they have to go to court, all their ducks are in a row. Now, USAA is different as the relationship is directly between them and the member, without the dealership as the middleman, so I can't claim to be privy to their policies and procedures, but I'd be surprised if they were vastly different from SOP in the industry.
One final thought is that if you were transitioning from active duty to disabled/retired, there may be some fine print in their agreement that they can call the loan due, and if you aren't in a position meet that obligation, they would recover the car. Mere speculation as I've never read a complete USAA auto finance contract.

I use a Tracki with my Android phone, but I think it also works with iphones. Tracki GPS Tracker

Like the Ameriloc, you have to pay a subscription but it's only $10/month if you sign up for the 2 year subscription. You get multiple notifications if your car is moved even a few inches. Features (near) real time email and text alerts as well as another alert if I have the app open. There is usually a one minute delay from the time the Tracki is moved and when you receive your alerts.
