I hve owned and driven both the 2:62 and the 3:09--and there's NO WAY the 2:62 is a faster car on low or big end racing.. The car actually needs the 3:09 to pull through the torque curve. The upper end pull with the 3:09 is so much stronger..
So--DOdge would make an option for their product that would make it slower?? HAHAHA... no way..
Get the 3:09--you won't regret it! and if you have a HellCat with an M6, get the 3:90 diff--BIG improvement!
It is a matter of gearing. With the 3.09 you hit seventh gear which has way less power than the 2.62 in 6th gear at the mile. I would agree with you otherwise but we proved it out and I was the slower one with the 3.09. Granted I was widebody(more drag) he was a hellcat(less horsepower).

well there's one way to settle this--a stock widebody 2:62 car against a stock widebody 3:09--my money and experience goes with the 3:09 all day long, start to finsih.

we disagree but thanks for your post and enjoy your Redeye!

2.62 does everything better at the 1\4 mile track. There is a mathematical reason that the 2.62 is better then a 3.09. Trans has a 4.71 1st ratio. 3.09 x 4.71 = 14.55. 2.62 x 4.71 = 12.34 any old timer that raced a Camaro, Chevelle or Big Block Nova with a Turbo 400 trans will tell you a 4.88 gear is a track only gear. Turbo 400 has a 2.48 1st ratio. 4.88 x 2.48 = 12.10 So the 2.62 has a starting line ratio of 12.34. 12.34 is probably a little on the steep side of optimal launch ratio. 3.09 = 14.55 is way to steep to get consistent launch without tire spin. Most 3.09 cars with mods launch in 2nd gear.
2nd ratio is 3.14. 3.09 x 3.14 = 9.70. Choice of 12.34 or 9.70 is easy. 12.34 is way better. At the finish line the 2.62 gives a bigger benefit. When a Hellcat makes a gear change it retards timing to lower tq while gear change takes place then ramps back up. With a 2.62 rear in a mid 10 second Hellcat. 5th to 6th gear change takes place around 100 feet before the finish. So car dumps timing to make 5th to 6th gear change. Now car is in 6th 1:1 ratio with reduced timing at the time you cross finish line. 5th gear ratio is 1.29. 5th to 6th gear change does not take place in a 1\4 mile if you have the 2.62 rear. 5th with a 2.62 will run up to 165mph before it shifts into 6th. A 2.62 geared Hellcat crosses the finish line with full timing and 3.38 ratio. Since it is in 5th and it has a 2.62. 2.62 x 1.29 = 3.38 ratio. This math and my redeye confirms i like the 2.62 gear.

Oh no you can't make a logical argument like that. LOL
Factor in the shorter Mickey 3054517 and those numbers become more amazing.
My HC likes the 2.62 also and has yet to have trouble with a 3.09 geared car in the 1/4 or 1/2 mile. Both cars being on stock power.

So, without beating this horse to death, this was the runlog from the event:

Southerminncat is vehicle ID 11060 and 10230 (2 drivers) and I was 10321. After multiple back-to back passes you can see that the Redeye was faster at the 1/2 mile but the regular HC was faster at the mile.

Interesting. I have only managed a best of 153.4 in the 1/2 mile. Stock 2.62 geared lowly 707hp Hellcat at full weight.
I do run at a track known to be an incline mind you. That may make up some of the difference along with weight reduction that southernminncat had.

The event in Maine is only about 8-9 hrs away from me. I keep saying I should check it out.
Hopefully the borders open up and I can make it next year.

The car typically ran 150-152mph in the 1/2 mile and 175-178mph in the mile in no-wind conditions; the runs above were between 7-8am with a ~15mph tailwind, so best possible conditions.

I figured Sanair Dragway being an incline may have had more to do with it. 🤷
Your response makes more sense for the difference.
Good info.
Luckily a couple of times a month they have 1/2 mile days. So I can get to those easy.
The Maine event from Loring is the closest mile to me.
